Factory CD player problem

On the way home today I was listening to a CD. All of a sudden the stereo cut off and it gave me a ERR message. Messed with it a little and the ERR message still appered. I noticed that with the truck is off I can still here the motor trying to eject or load the CD and nothing is in there. While the ignition is off, I loaded a CD and after a couple of seconds it ejected it. If I leave it there I don't here the motor doing anything. These are both recorded and original CD's that the stereo does this with.

Any idea's what's going on?

I had the same thing happen in my 1995. Exact same symptoms. Unfortunately, the CD player went bad. Cost to replace was $400 or $300 to repair, so I took the opportunity to put in a complete new aftermarket stereo for less. The dealer said they all go bad eventually.

Is the CD player in the radio or a seperate component?

Heres how I have fixed 2 of them. Our company trucks get a lot of dust (Road Construction) Had same symptoms. ERR on display, eject CD etc........

I take the radio out and take the top cover off. There is a hole on top about 1" in diameter. If you look towards the back (inside) of the cd player you will see the Laser eye. It runs on a worm gear. I took some WD 40 on the straw that comes with it (Spray it into a cup or something so you can dab it on the gear) and carefully touched a couple of drops onto the worm gear and no more problems! Fixed first one over a year ago and still works fine.

I ran across one in my Cousin's 2002 Tahoe the other day that has a strange problem. Everything on the stereo works, but the tuner is stuck on one frequeny even though it will show whatever you set it to. At first I thought the antenna was unplugged or a bad lead. But I took the stereo out and swapped it with my Brother's 2002 Tahoe's stereo that is identical. The stereo still malfunctioned in the other vehicle and the other one worked in the first Tahoe correctly. So the stereo's tuner definately has something wrong with it. It is the Theftlock stereo with the built in CD. I wonder if I can get one that the cd is messed up on and swap parts out to make one good one? Oh well, anybody have a good unit they replaced with aftermarket they want to sell?

Called the local dealer today and found that my player is still covered under extended warranty. Taking it in Monday.
