Block heater leaking

Recommended Posts

On cold nights (20 degrees and less) I get a spot of coolant about 1" in diameter showing up on my driveway. It appears to be seeping from the block heater. Does anyone know how the factory block heater is sealed up, is it an o-ring, can I snug up a bolt, or do I need to drain the cooling system and take it out?

I know this is not a measurable amount of coolant, as the recovery tank level has not noticably moved, but it bugs me having spots on the driveway.

DO NOT TITEN IT............replace it

sealed with an o-ring but not reuseable....it will pop out

should be changed cuz if it ever pops at hiway speeds your eng will probably be cooked/seized......the coolant comes out like a fire hose

The bolt was all corroded and I didn't want to try to tighten it, adn it is starting to seep even more. So I got into the shop this afternoon. They are going to replace the block heater and do a flush and fill.

I figured let someone else do it as I did not feel like freezing in the driveway.

I have the same issue with my99 S-10 ZR2 with a 4.3 exactly one year ago I had a leak on the block heater which shorted out and popped the circuit breaker on my house. Now here I am one year later with it starting to seep a little bit again and popping my circuit all over.

I think I may just take it out and have it plugged. Whats up with AC Delcos parts recently?
