Uhhh....correct me if I'm wrong, but how come Pete Rose is banned from BB, but some one like Daryll Strawberry isn't?? Oh that's right, gambling is illegal in the f'd up world of sports, and doing coke, and beating your wife isn't....my fault, I misunderstood the rules. I'm gonna go do some steroids, and growth hormones now.....spring training is just around the corner.

Gambling in sports is the #1 taboo. Being involved can cause someone to alter the outcome of a game in some shape or form.

I believe drug use should be treated the same way in professional sports, but they people in charge are too greedy to let that happen.

It's all about the almighty dollar

Oh I completely agree with you, that gambling for or against your own team if you are a player and especially a manager is very bad, a manager can change the outcome of any given game by playing certain players or not. I suppose such a big deal wouldn't have been made about it, if he had just come out and said it 14 years ago. But you have to look at performance enhancing drugs the same way, you get some of these power hitters, with arms bigger than most people thighs, and there is nothing anyone can tell me that they don't change the outcome of games. I'm not saying they don't have raw talent, because all profesional athletes do. I guess this should have gone into the rant forum, but in a nutshell I am sick of the whining in sports.(ie....I didn't bet on baseball, I don't juice, I didn't beat my wife, I didn't rape that girl...blah blah blah).....crap I've got whining for them....I am sick of paying 100 bucks for tickets to a hockeygame that is in a half empty arena, I am sick of paying 7.50 per ticket from ticket master, I am sick of paying 8 dollars for a watered down beer at the ball park, and I am sick of paying 9 dollars to park at the ballpark, when there is no where to park for free(without walking a mile.

Basically, if you are a professional athlete.....SHUT THE HELL UP....play the d**n game, and entertain me.....that's what your being paid 10 million dollars a year for...and keep your thing in your pants, and when you don't, don't complain to me that lifes unfair when people boo you.LOL.....and get rid of the BCS and have a playoff....after all, I don't care if it'll make the season longer, you're there for entertainment....no one really goes to the university of miami for a degree in sociology AND to play football (I appologize to all division 1 athletes that play sports, and are there for an education)

LOL..rant over...I think this is my 50th rant on this board about sports.....I can't help it, I love watching the game, but I hate seeing my credit card bill afterwards.

No, the people in-charge get their stuff from the players that are doing it, if they ban those athletes, they lose their connections so they can't roll-up a fatty while they all bet on which team will win the next world series.:thumbs:

Don't let liar and gambler Pete Rose back.

But also kick out Strawberry and any other druggie.

Pete Rose was an awesome baseball player. He bet on Reds games while he was managing the team. That in itself is good enough reason for baseball to deny him entry to the Hall of Fame.It is very different than a guy who drinks too much or sniffs some coke.He was in a position of leadership and bet money on the team he controlled.I think it would be a slap in the face to all the guys who got in the Hall without committing criminal acts like Pete did.

I agree with the comment above about the guys using drugs to blow-up and make a mockery of the home run record and other power hitting records. As far as salaries go that is the owners fault for letting things get out of hand.I know if I was a player and could get 10 mil a year I wouldn't turn it down for say 1 million.Supply and demand at it's best gentleman.Pro sports suck in general except NFL and that's why college sports are my favorite.

I saw about the last 15 minutes of the recent TV interview with Pete, he came across as sincere to me. Maybe he learned his lesson, he's the only one that will really know.

He definitely is Hall of Fame material. Like everyone else said, maybe he wouldn't have been banned if he had come clean in the first place.

I agree that either illegal drugs or banned performance-enhancing drugs should be grounds for kicking someone out. The almighty dollar is exactly what keeps this from happening.

These people are role models for a lot of kids and as such, any sports commission should not tolerate the unacceptable behavior.

Just my 2 cents' worth!

Ok, then let's go back and kick Ruth, Mantle, and countless others out of the Hall Of Fame too. They had vices such as alcoholism, drug addiction, and violence. I'm sick of hearing about Rose, and I detest Strawberry, but if you get rid of them then you need to go back and do it all.

Pete Was Awesome!! One of my favorite of all time. My take is maybe he made some mistakes as a manager, but you can't deny he gave it his all as a player and he deserves to be remembered as one of the greatest, along with the greatest.

BTW, I have never seen proof of him having any effect on the outcome of any game. Think about this, how many bookies are going to allow you to get over on them with something as lame as throwing a game? I have a feeling Pete would be sleeping with the fishes if he was that stupid.

Party On!

I saw that interview as well.

Pete Rose only admitted it finally, to get in. His attitude (IMO) is "There, I admitted it, now let me in" The guy is still gambling BTW...

Also, He says he only bet on his team, not against it. LMAO That is just as bad...you don't think he'd start pitcher with only one days rest instead of 2 or three? Or any number of other factors? Yeah.....

He is where he belongs, not in the Hall of Fame IMO.

Regarding Strawberry - that is one F-d up dude right there. I strongly agree these athletes are highly regarded by our youth as role models. Right or wrong, that is how it is. The fact that these organizations (MLB, NFL, etc) continue to tolerate this by giving them chance after chance shows they care MUCH more about the $$$ factor then anything else. Sad.

Sounds like Hall of Fame material to me....

Here's my take. If Pete Rose should be kept out of baseball's Hall of Fame for what he did off the field, then go over to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, and kick out Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, and everybody else. Cause we all know they all weren't "being role models" in their spare time.
