My truck has 133;000kms or 82,000miles on it always took it in for oil changes on time and never really worked the engine that hard.

So a couple of weeks ago I took the truck in for an oil change, got it back then two days later I could hear a noise coming from the engine close to the vacuum pump. So I thought it needed a new one so took it in and it would be covered under a special noticed to GM service.

They called me later that day to tell me that it had a collapsed lifter and would have to take it apart for further investigation but because there is a record of every oil change on their system it would be covered under power train warranty ,which is to 160,000kms thank God

Anyway they changed all lifters , camshaft, bolts ,gaskets ,new oil, refrigerant, and a bunch of other stuff. They even changed the vacuum pump, belt and tensioner. Then they found a leaking oil cooler line so they replaced that too.

They only had the truck for 20 days due to waiting for one gasket to come in which took a little over a week to come in.

I just got the truck back so only 10 miles on it so far but it sounds and looks like new again under the hood. Time will tell

Oh and I asked the service representative how much that would have cost me if I didn’t have warranty, and he told me I would have been looking at over $8,000.
