Time for a "New" truck...

For those who don't know, my lengthy absences from the forum are a result of my job in sales at a GMC dealership.  Me selling trucks is like having an alcoholic tend bar, but I digress.

Wifey and I are close to buying a new camper but we really felt we needed a long bed to carry a nice size slide-in cab-over and tow a 2 place toy trailer behind us.  I'm nearing 120K on my short bed currently and its paid off.

I've had opportunitites to sell my truck but have held out for different reasons.  But yesterday I took a truck in trade, super cheap, that I can't pass up and it's time for my truck to go.

By Tuesday or Wed, I'll be the proud new owner of a 1998 GMC K2500 SLE, ext cab long bed, auto with a 454.  It has a few more options than mine - pwr seats, CD, bedliner, etc.  But best of all it only has 23,600 miles on it from one little old man who traded for a Dmax.

The funny part is, it's white with black fender flares, has tinted windows with an identical bug shield and window visors as mine!  Except for my topper, grill guard, and wheels, they're identical trucks to look at.  Guess I'm just a sucker for a '98 white truck with black accessories.  Can't wait for that 10 MPG!

I'll try to have pics to post by the weekend.  A 3/4 ton longbed....Jp and Kyle will be so proud!

Congrats!!!  Sounds like a great truck!!!

My friend has a '99 (old body style) K2500 excab shortbed with the 7.4L in it and he loves it!!!  I'm thinking he gets 12-14 mpg's out of his...

Ext. cab longbed, what a fine, fine configuration.  Everyone should try one out, wonderful cab space with a useable bed.

My 6.5ft bed suits me fine....more than enough for what I haul...

So how does it feel to know you own a real truck now?  You won't ever want to go back to one of those shortbed again.

btw, it sounds like you found a pretty good truck.  Having that few miles is really rare on a 3/4 ton truck.....

You know, there is a reason God gave you two legs paco.  It is quite ok to use them.

    • Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.
    • Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?
    • Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.
    • Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.
    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
