Rainier --> Bravada

I can understand why Buick wants the Rainier -- satisfy customers who miss its wagons & get a "real truck based" SUV, but this rendition smacks of the "interdivision" competition that was supposed to be decreased.

I suppose the V8 is designed SOMEWHAT to differentiate the Rainier, but the current photo doesn't seem to allow for the Envoy's headlamp washers, it is said to be limited to 5  passenger config only, styling looks identiacal to Rendevous...

If GM/Buick is serious about taking on the competition ought not this vehicel be designed to challenge the Lincoln Aviator, BMW X5, MB ML55, Lexus RX300, Acura MDX,Volvo XC90 Infinity QX4, Range Rover?? To do that it seems a third row capability is prevalent, as are top notch features...

Don't get me wrong -- the Bravada is nice, but I would expect a much more fully developed challenger. Is GM/Buick in too big hurry here? Isn't the Bravad scheduled through 2003?

I would expect Buick to have a lenghty list of 'target attributes' that will be STANDARD FARE in 2004.

I'm sure the platform is capable of "Best in Class" towing now. What would it take to have "BIC" V8 economy? BIC passenger comfort? BIC handling/dynamics? Safety? Luxury?

There are two paths GM/Buick could follow right now -- path a) 'bolt on' as many features as possible to 'load-up' the Bravada or b) 'rethink' as much of the Bravad as possible to create a truly superior vehicle. For the success of GM and the survival of Buick I sincerely hope they pursue the riskier, but more rewarding "plan B".
