Chirping noise from rearend?

Recently my truck has started making a 'chirp' noise for lack of better words. When you stop you can hear the noise. It sounds like there is some play in the rearend or something. It doesnt do this when you stop in neutral just in drive. It will also only do it after a certain MPH like 15 or so, then when you come to a stop, 'chrip'. Anyone else experienced this problem. I havent physically got under the truck and played w/ the drive shaft to see if there is a lot of slack. Just wondered if someone else has run in to this. Thanks in advance.

as soon as you stop completely. You know when you feel the little foward force when you finally stop. Imagine that with a 'chirp' in the rearend. Sometimes it does it at acceleration. But not very often. Thanks again.

I think I have that too. But I think it is more in the suspension. I also have the clunk in the rear end to which I believe is the slip yoke makeing the noise.

I would guess that a noise like that would be from a shock absorber, or a bushing on one of the shocks or rear springs. It is also possible that the noise could be coming from one of the universal joints.

Spray your spring shackles where they attach to the frame and also the upper and lower shock mounts with some Silicone Lube, and see if that cures the problem...

but if it were the rear suspension wouldnt it make the clunk noise in neutral also? i was wondering if it was the uv joints. that was my first guess. thanks for all the suggestions.

It sounds exactly like what happened on my Dad's 2002 GMC recently. Come to a stop and it chirps, accelerate, it chirps. It turned out the dealer replaced the slip yoke coming out of the transfer case and it was fine. Sounds like if you lube the slip yoke it should be fine (provided it is a 4x4).

It sounds exactly like what happened on my Dad's 2002 GMC recently. Come to a stop and it chirps, accelerate, it chirps. It turned out the dealer replaced the slip yoke coming out of the transfer case and it was fine. Sounds like if you lube the slip yoke it should be fine (provided it is a 4x4).
