Good Morning Fellow Silverado owners,

I have a pretty involved question for the masses.  I recently purchased a 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD Duramax.  This replaced my beloved 2016 that was absolutely destroyed by an idiotic driver!  The new truck was one that came from the factory without Apple Carplay.  It has the CPO code, meaning it was a factory credit because it does not have Carplay.  There was a shortage in these modules when this truck was being built.  The new truck is also IO5.  The former Silverado is IO6 and DID have Carplay.  Long story short, I have the behind-the-screen (Radio Control) module in my possession.  However, my local Chevy dealer believes that it will not work as I do not have the HMI module as well.  They also are not even sure that the HMI and Radio Control Module with Carplay can be programmed into the IO5 build since it is coming from an IO6 build.  IF anyone has any thoughts on this, I would really appreciate it.  I currently have the turn-by-turn NAV, but that trial runs out in July.  I know that I can go old school and just get the phone holder and use that.  We do lots of traveling, and having the Carplay interface is important.   Thoughts??

GM/The dealer will be of no help.  GM did not offer an approved factory retrofit for RPO code "CPO" trucks as they are built with the MyLink 2.0 hardware/software and not the MyLink 2.5 hardware/software that had CarPlay/Android Auto in it.  They cannot program the 2.5 hardware to work.

Your only course of action is an HMI from WAMS.  2016 (Only) Android Auto / Apple CarPlay Upgrade / Retrofit - White Automotive & Media Services (whiteautoandmedia.com)

Per WAMS, CPO trucks only need the HMI module.  They do NOT need a new radio so you can return/sell that.

If you are looking for factory nav, they have an IO5 to IO6 upgrade as well - GM Factory IO6 Navigation Upgrade / Retrofit (HMI Based Applications) - White Automotive & Media Services (whiteautoandmedia.com)
