I have a 2020 Silverado 1500 RST with the 5.3 that came stock with the 170 amp alternator. I see that we have more options now available for higher output alternators from places like Mechman and JS, but I was wondering if anyone has gone from the Stock 170 to the 220 amp, which comes from factory as well on the Silverado and Sierras with the trailering package. I’m running mids and highs for my doors and bullet dome tweeters on an 800 4 channel amp, along with 4 8inch competiton Skar subs on a 3000 watt smart3 Taramps amp so the little extra juice from a 220amp alternator would be greatly appreciated. I know for the high output alternators you have to do the big 3 upgrade (while also bypassing the smart charge system on our trucks) so I’m assuming the 220 amp has to be done the same way? I’d greatly appreciate the feedback from anyone who has swapped out their stock 170 amp to a 220 amp. Thank you.
