Air conditioning question

Just a quick question about the a/c pump, should it be engaging on when the temp is full hot and outside air is on? it happens regardless of air selector position.

Also I got rearended today no big damage but it now needs a new bumper i think the other guy was because he was behind me at a stop sign down mainstreet. with alberta insurance being the way it is he would rather pay me cash, but his cell phone ran out and the address he gave i found out he no longer lives there. sorry for the long message but I am a little bit after having my pride and joy damaged . if it doesn't get repaired all those hours and hours of polishing are going to eat at me when i do the bumper.

Do you have the a/c controls on defog? If so then the a/c compressor will run for dehumidification purposes, even with the temp selector on full heat, it should cut on and off fairly often. It is normal. Sorry to hear about the accident, ignorant people suck. I would be steamed about that too.

If the mode selector knob is in the defog in anyway, even just one detent clockwise of the floor position, the controller will command the a/c request.

I've been rearended as well. My bumper took a little bend, and the front end of the Ranger that hit me looked like a grenade went off behind the grille. A week after that, a brand new Acura put a nice receiver hitch shaped hole in his front bumper. So I'm pretty pleased I chose a full size truck to drive those days.
