Jpshostr Posted July 31, 2002 Posted July 31, 2002 94 degrees all afternoon, just wonderful conditions for baling straw. :sarcasm: Raked it this morning. As I got all the hayracks staged. While baling the rack isn't the most fun place to be, lots of dust, as well as trying to keep up stacking bales while the whole deal is moving right along. I loaded a few rakes, while the neighbor that was helping loaded one while I drove. Now they are all loaded on racks, waiting for morning when Dad and I are going to unload them before the heat of the day comes.
antig24 Posted July 31, 2002 Posted July 31, 2002 lol, cool pics. it has been hot in ILL the past couple of days.
97Z71 Posted July 31, 2002 Posted July 31, 2002 Too much work for me.... The office is a cool 72 today
99Silver6.0 Posted July 31, 2002 Posted July 31, 2002 JP, So there is some Deere in there.. Deere baler and tractor. I hate baling round bales. Suxs
regcab02HD Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 So that's how ya'll do it in Ill. We do it alittle different her in Texas, atleast the loading part. I'll have to get some pics when we bale our hay in a week or two. What do ya'll use for hay? We plant Redtop cane. In a good year we make between 125-150 bales an acre on the first cut.
k1500chevy97 Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 JP, So there is some Deere in there.. Deere baler and tractor. I hate baling round bales. Suxs Finally we see some signs of life from this guy Go mean green farmin machine!!
Jpshostr Posted August 1, 2002 Author Posted August 1, 2002 Guys, sorry to say this, but the Deere tractor and baler aren't ours. We don't have a square baler, so our neighbor brings over his when we bale up our straw. That green thing is also the only one on his place, all his other tractors, the ones he uses, are red. That tractor is really overpowering that baler, but when he baled his own straw his wife drove the tractor, gotta keep them happy and give them A/C. Paco, it must be easy to say ONLY 94 degrees when you aren't following around a baler. I was wore out last night, and am even more so today. Was out there at 6AM on three hours sleep unloading those bales trying to beat the heat of the day (didn't work, I got real warm), then helped a neighbor put up 800 bales of his straw this afternoon. Oh well, went and saw Trick Pony tonight, just one night of a week full of country music concerts! regcab02HD, we don't square a single bale of hay here, all ours goes into round bales. We only use 200 squares of hay a year, just buy those. Anyway, we have been using a mix of alfalfa, fescue, bromegrass, and a few other assorted grasses the past few years with good results. First cutting we averaged 3.5 5.5x6 round bales/acre.
Jen Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 I agree with Paco...94 degrees here is a cool front!! Gig'em Ags!!
CMNTMXR81 Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 Too much work for me.... The office is a cool 72 today My thoughts exactly! Too much labor involved there JP Those comparing heat, 94 degrees with 1,000% percent humidity and 1,000% dewpoint (yes I know that's not possible) like it has been here and most of the eastern U.S. is considerably different than 104 no humidity and low dewpoint heat of the desert! It feels like you're hitting a brick wall when you walk out of A/C!
OhioPlowboy Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 you guys that think thats easy standing out there in the sun with 99% humidity....I get a laugh out of you.. And then, it takes a certain amount of intelligence to stack a wagon so that it will ride without tying anything on. Anyone wanna help me bale some hay???
CMNTMXR81 Posted August 2, 2002 Posted August 2, 2002 I don't! I'll sit back with a Pina Colada and "Supervise" though.
Kansas Kid Posted August 2, 2002 Posted August 2, 2002 Those comparing heat, 94 degrees with 1,000% percent humidity How about 109F, with the high humidity? That is how hot it was here last Friday and Saturday, the heat index was well over 115F. It takes a lot for me to complain about the heat, as it gets over 100F here quite often and it is always humid. But that was damn hot.
