Fuji S5000 Digital Camera

I'm thinking of upgrading to the S5000 from my 2600Zoom. I like this little camera, but it is of limited use for action shots & the zoom is insufficient for long shots. I'll still use it on my snowmobiling & camping trips as it is easily packed away.

Does anyone have any experience w/ the S5000? I'll be using it @ NASCAR, NHRA & snowcross events. W/ this camera, you can manually override the shutter speed for action shots. Plus the zoom is comparable to that of my Minolta 35 mm SLR.

Any input would be appreciated.

Z71, thanks for the suggestion  Someone else on another site suggested it to me. I had forgotten about it. I found it when I was checking into buying the 2600Z.

A good site for digital camera info.

I have a 3800. The xd card are nice.

THe only problem is getting action pics I always seem to miss the pic that I wanted

Is there a camera that has a faster shutter speed that does not cost an arm & leg

The S5000 has a manual shutter mode so you can select the shutter speed. I took some pics beside a freeway yesterday using 1/500 & the pics turned out great.

The camera is 549 in Canadian pesos  I checked & the US price is between 3 & 400 bucks.

I have the s7000 take great pics at 6 mp, and the zoom is incredible. Well worth the money, and right now it's cheap at costco only 500 bones....not to shabby for a good digital SLR. The display on the back of the camera is crystal clear too....very nice :sigh:

Sweet!!

Have you messed with the manual features much?

How good does the CCD HR make the 6 look like 12 mil pixels?

I cant wait :)

I have messed with the manual functions a bit, my 35mm camera is a Nikon F3, and I just have to get used to using the digital manually, I have not messed around with the 12mp interpolated pictures yet. I got it a day before I left to go get married and I didn't want to screw any pics up while I was there, So I pretty much let the auto features do all the work...once I get a chance to read the manual and mess around it should be pretty good. I was on my balcony messing around with it, and in 1mp mode and full zoom, you could basically read the labels on the backs of the bikini clad girls on the beach :sigh:

I think a real plus with this camera is the software that comes with it. It's really cool....I just ordered 2 prints of some pics I took with it from Fuji just to see what kind of quality I could get out of an 8x10 at 6mp. I am a hard core fan of 35mm film, I like the control I have over it, and the quality. But I have to say, when I can take a picture in doors with 800 ISO film, and then go outside and switch to 100 ISO on the digital it, get's me going. I would post an example pic that I took, but the 6 mp pictures are about 4 megs and it would be worthless to shrink them down.

Another piece of advice...just go ahead and spring for the 512mb XD card when you get it, don't screw around with the microdrives....aparently they break when you sneeze to hard.

You guys are giving me camera-envy.

I only have the 3800....I thought it was a great camera, until now.

Thanks a lot. :sigh:

you can use a 1 gig micro drive in the s7000 but the largest xd card you can use is 512, but it holds 339 6mp pics so that's plenty enough for me, I was in the bahamas for a week and took pics of everything and only managed to take 140.

Up here in Canada the S7000 is almost double the price of the S5000. $999 CDN vs $530 CDN. That's an amount of money I can't justify spending on a camera.

    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
