Performance Increases

Well I added the Volant intake first, and 0 to 60 times stayed roughly the same.

I added the Corsa exhaust, and 0 to 60 times stayed roughly the same.

I added the Westers PCM, and 0 to 60 times dropped roughly 1/2 to 3/4 second.

I doubt the gains with the Westers would have been as big without the intake and exhaust.

westers tunes for all the extra stuff u put on. if it is not on al together at the same time, ur screwing up ur computer. by this i mean, u are confusing it... give it sometime while everything is in together..or reset the ecu, then measure ur times. good luck with that! i haven't heard anything but great things on all the things u bought!!! all top of the line!

I gotta ask how you're getting your times. "roughly the same" could mean a lot in 0-60. And 1/2 to 3/4 of a second in 0-60 should equate to over a second in the 1/4 mile which would be VERY impressive with just a pcm tune.

As 1 bad burb said, you should have had your westers set for the other mods, otherwise you wasted a lot of potential.

Im very happy with the outcome.

My times were recorded with a G-Tech, about 10 runs or so at each point.

Stock was roughly 9.5 seconds on average, with a best of 9.2.

All mods dropped it to about 8.8 seconds on average, with a best of 8.6.

So if I squint my eyes, hold my breath, and stand on one foot, I might have gotten a second or more quicker from my worst stock to my best with all mods!

As the Westers gets dialed in more and more it will only get better. I only have about 150 miles on it so far, with about 115 of those highway cruising miles.

I just got a k&n cold air system and i put manifold back dual exhaust on my 95 gmc....and i havn't found any proformence chips out there for a 95. Are there any good ones out there?

Well I have ran my first tank of gas since the westers tune. My trucks runs so much stronger. I am extremely pleased. Not to mention , I drove this last tanks like a SOB and still got 1.3 mpg better than on the factory tune. Thanks Lyndon!

My Wester's tune is finally "coming around" to. It was really bad when I first installed the PCM. A lot of detonation, but now the truck feels alot better now. The detonation is gone, and i can spin the tire thru second gear if I want. If I turn on the taul/haul, I feel even more power for some reason. Wester's is a good choice, but the PCM has to learn some it seems, which is what Wester's said!

DMAX Daddy Thanks for posting your results.

I think that 100 percent of your gains are from the Wester's tune !

The Wester's tune does not need any special programming for the intake or exhaust mods that you have done to my knowledge. Now adding headers or a MAF would be a different thing and require a new tune.

I have an Airforce One Intake and could not get a measureable increase in time or HP with it. I have a Superchips 2280 as well and got a measureable gain of .98 sec to 60 MPH and 27HP with it using a GTech Pro Competition. No exhaust mods here yet but my guess is that they will not add any measureable performance increase over stock.

Keep on rollin :D

DMAX Daddy a couple of questions.

What engine and transmission do you have in your '04 Suburban?

What Corsa exhaust are you running and how do you like it? How does it sound at idle, cruising, and when you get on it? Do you do any towing and if so how does it sound especially under load? Are you getting any drone in the cab?

Thanks

Jim :D

I have the 5.3L and stock tranny, I havent looked into what it is yet.

I got the Cat back Corsa from Tom Byrne and it is a very nice set up and was very easy to install. It actually fit!

Idle is quiet, Full Throttle is loud and authorative, and cruising at 65 it is noticable but not a drone, just louder than stock. I plan on soundproofing the truck inside anyway. Last night I sprayed some of the liquid Dynamat underneath on the heat shield between the muffler and the truck and it helped a lot. I plan on 2 layers of Dynamat or equivalent in the back and a single layer in the front seat/door areas anyway cause the 'Burb is a perfect echo chamber, and that will probably eliminate any idle/cruising noise caused by the exhaust.

But boy does she let you know when you are on it!

DMAX Daddy - Thanks for the info. :D Looking for an exhaust for the 6.0 which I guess is a loud engine and hard to set up exhaust wise. The Corsa is a great looking and sounding piece and is supposed to be free of drone. If it is a good working exhaust in a 5.3 Burb then maybe it would be a good choice for the 6.0. They don't seem to have one for my truck yet maybe soon.

Thanks again

I dynoed the difference between my stock intake an my AFE Magnum intake and got 11RWHP and 8 lb ft. RWT with just the filter change. Also, I could feel the difference backed up by the dyno. The Westers increased it by another 28RWHP. I have the dyno charts if you're interested.

What do you guys think of the Hypertech Power Programmer III? I have the MAC CAI, Hypertech Tuning, Gibson CAT back and the truck sounds and runs great...I am new to this site and never heard of this Wester's PCM replacement...
