Best 'lubricant' for the door squeak rattle

Recommended Posts

First I tried white lithium grease and that worked for a few days. Then I tried WD-40  and that didn't last very long either. Now tonight I bought some petroleum jelly (lady at the counter at Eckerd's looked at me funny, I felt like I should explain. :D )

Anyway, anyone have any ideas? The rattle/squeak isn't that big of a deal, but it's slightly annoying. Is there a way to tighten the door against the latch or something to press the rubber seal tighter or something?

 I'm really pi$$ed at GM right now, BUT...

Use the products from the stealership:

"Lubriplate" for the hinges (all hinges that are 'flat', even the hood release) About $10.00 spray can. Doesnt seem to wash off, no creaky hinges..

GM "Silicon Emulsion" for the weather stripping (don't forget to do the inside of the window seals. Comes in a little plastic bottle with a useless dauber attached to the cap by a wire. I wash the weather stripping, dry, then use a little paintbrush to apply. Then, I get frustrated and just rub it on with my fingers. Let dry (with the doors open, no pressure on seals) overnight. It works well. It's about $3.00, and that will treat everything and leave you some to forget where you put and hafta buy more...

Good luck.

Oh..... P.S.... Rattle and squeak... look at the sill underneath your suicide doors, check to see if they are contacting down there.... Let me know what you figure out...

I had the dreaded squeek in the passenger side door of my 03. I bought some Prestone Silicone Lubricant ($3) at wally world and sprayed the door latches and the little black jam that is in the middle of the (driver and passenger) door. Squeek is gone!

I forget where I read about the little black jam, but one of the GoodWrench guys that respond on these sites said that is what they do on warranty work. I worked great. Took all of 30 seconds to treat litterally and now it is nice and quiet.

hope this helps...

Well, I rubbed some more petroleum jelly around the rubber seals and also on the black jam 03GMCinBC is talking about and the squeaking is gone. I'll let you all know if the sound comes back.

My truck now sounds like the new truck that it is. Turning the radio up was getting annoying.
