2002 Silverado 2wd Shocks

I need some info...I am putting new shocks on my 2002 Silverado Ext Cab 2wd and am just swaping out the stock shocks for stock replacements. I already did the back w/ out a problem. Is there anything tricky about doing the fronts? Do they pull down through the control arms when unbolted? What are the torque specs for all of the bolts, front and back for the shocks?

Any help would be great.

Is there a site out there that has all the torgue specs for this truck?

Thanks,

Mark

The front can be tricky because it is hard to keep the shaft from turning when removing the top bolt. Use an impact gun for removal if you have one. Dont worry too much about the torque specs, youll know when the bolts are tight enuff. :sigh:

There's a special shock removal tool needed. If you at the very top, it's hex shaped. Checker/Kragen and Autozone loan tools.

And for safety, preload the A-arm a tiny bit with a floor jack, loosen the shock bolts and remove. The preload helps with two things, first keeps the shock away from full travel (shouldn't be anyways if properly sized) for easier removal, second if the shock was at full travel and you removed the top or bottom bolt it wouldn't move wildly about sending the spring flying (very rare as it is though)

If you don't have a shop manual, sometimes the torque specs are packaged with the shocks

Sort of on the topic. What brand/type of shocks are good replacements on the 'Soft-ride' suspension? I usually lean toward the Monroe brand but does anyone have any better suggestions?
