Remote door locks

Has anyone run into this? If I leave my cell phone plugged into the charger (which is plugged into either the lighter or the accessory outlets) the remote door locks will not work. If I unplug the charger, the remote will work fine.

This is the first I've heard of this happening. I leave my cell phone pluged in all the time and my remote has always worked. I have an '03 now but my last truck, a '99, worked fine also.

Your charger, like any electrical device emits a radio frequency.

Obviously that frequency is, in effect, jamming your remote receiver.

What brand of phone and charger do the people who have experienced this own?

I'm guessing it's the same brand?

This happens to me. In my 2000 Yukon, I have used two different Motorola hands-free car kits for my two different cell phones. With the first one, I was using the kit for my old Motorola StartTac, and I could leave the STar Tac in the holder cup charging or whatever and the remote worked fine.

When I got a new phone (Motorola T720) I had to get the new hands-free kit to work with that phone. When I got it all hooked up, I found out that I could no longer leave my phone in the cup charging and still use the remote locks. So, now, whenever I leave the truck, if I want to lock the doors with the key fob, I have to take my phone with me. Oh well.

If anyone knows of a way around this, I'd sure appreciate it.

My problem is, If I'm charging my phone, my locks still work, but my radio reception goes to crap. I have an LG VX-10 phone.

As it turns out my phone is a Motorola T720. It makes sense that the rf frequecy of the cell phone could be interfering with the remote however the remote works fine when using the phone inside the truck (just tried this).

When I recently purchased the truck the remote did not work. Turns out the fuse for the lighter was blown (Sure that's the first thing I'd check).

I wonder if the use of any other device plugged into the lighter might have the same strange effect. At least it's not a show stoppper, just an annoyance.

Strange, I charge my cell phone (Nokia-Cingular) in my Burb all the time on one of the acessory jacks, leaving the charger pluged in even if the phone isn't. I don't think I have ever had this problem. I also keep a GPS pluged into the other acessory jack, and the GPS is never turned off.

In additionn a lot of the time I have a Toshiba Laptop plugged into the cigar lighter, running a OBDII diagnosic program in "real time", just to see what is happening. (You know A/F ratio, load% throttle position, intake air temp, etc.).

I never had a problem with the remote that I know of. I double click it and the locks click and the horn beeps. I come back hit it and everything unlocks. I think.

Now I am going to have to start checking to see that it really is locked.
