I'm thinking about putting an air horn in my truck to express my displeasure of the driving abilities of the people on the road around me. Has anyone put one in their truck? It should just be a matter or wiring up power, a ground, and a switch somewhere in the cab, right? A few local stores have them for ~$30 so at that price, it'll be worth it even for the cool factor if I don't use it on the road.

I got one for my blazer after I replaced the steering wheel....the old horn never worked after that....I bought one through summit, it was 120DB, I think Wolo made it...it was loud, but I thought it made my truck sound like a d**n trolley or something, it was to high pitched for me.....still though, it got your attention.

Install was very easy, I mounted it under the hood, hooked up the relay that came with it, and put a toggle in my center console for it. Worked ever since.

No Dixie.... This is Metro Detroit and the purpose is to scare the crap out of the a-holes who try to cut me off!!!

Yeah, put one in my 03 Sierra. Wiring is easy ... relay, power + ground. Mounting it was simple too - took advantage of the space where the dual battery should go to mount the gear.

Ended up switching back to the old electric horns though (for right now). Something's wrong with the compressor and it doesn't fire enough air into the horns to make them work. So until I have the time to deal with that, we're back to the OEM method.

I live in NJ, and I hear ya - with a 50 mile commute each way to work, I'm always expressing my displeasure with other drivers verbally, gesturing and always on the horn. I swear NJ will give anyone over 16 a license, no matter how badly they do on the test.

If you want an air horn go all out and get one the big rigs use. The GROVER brand air horns are the best. Sure they cost a lot more but they look great and they last longer. I have them on all my cars and trucks. You can install them up top or under hood. They make two different one and the underhood air horn is a little cheaper I think. Get the GROVER model 1601 air horns you'll be really pleased. They also have an entire kit with compressor, electric valve switch, air tank fittings, the works. 115 Decibels, the same sound the big rigs make!

I have one "for-what-it-is-worth" negative opinion on these horns, in spite of as much as I like the idea. If I am blarred at by a big-rig sounding horn, I'm going to be trying to respond to get out of the way of SOMETHING that looks like a big rig. I mean, I'm conditioned to associating that sound with a big rig.

You get blarred at with that sound, you hit all of your mirrors with your eyes, and you then respond in the way you should to avoid the collision, hopefully.

But, if a little dinky half ton pick-up-truck has one of these horns, it might not register in my mind that the pickup I'm seeing is the one I pulled in front of, dummy that I am, as I search for that big rig in all that traffic.

I would like a more substantial horn set up, but one that mentally yells "pickup" rather than "big rig".

And I'm not faulting anyone of this. The little kid in me wants those big horns, too.
