Windshield noise driving me nuts.

Has anyone had any issues with what sounds like a simple fix, but impossible to locate on their windshield? It sounds like a loose wire resting on the windshield, and when I get up to highway speeds is the only time I hear it, tapping, jiggling, whatever. I have put duct tape in suspicious areas, thinking it was the plastic housings between the hood and windshield, however it is still there. I am beginning to think it may be the side seal on the windshield, but wanted to ask you fellas first if you have heard of this. I know it sounds simple to find, but it's not, it's this mysterious brain teaser.

I have a bug shield, both hood and windows, however just cannot seem to locate it. THe sound seems to be from the passenger side, however every morning I take a piece of duct tape and attempt to isolate a possible area each day, without luck. Could it be the windshield washer fluid hose in the middle of the hood/windshield area? Not sure on my end, making me crazy.

I would be willing to bet some money that it has something to do with either your bug shield or your vent visors...maybe try taking them off and drive around...if no noise, you know what the problem is!

I had the same prob, It was the rubber on each side of the winshield. It looks like the rubber is glued to the windshield but it is not. I used the 3m double sided tape (gray stuff). It worked for me.

THanks, I will check it out and run a butter knife along the rubber to check it out.

I've driven seven different new body style Chevy's quite a bit at one time or another, and every one of them has a rattling windshield! It doesn't seem to matter if they are 1/2 or 3/4 tons, with or without a bug deflector. So far, we've taken them all into the dealer and they have been fixed under warranty without any questions.

If you talk to a dealer, they should know exactly what you're talking about, and they should be able to fix it easily by resealing the windshield on the sides.

Most likely the windshield moldings are the culprit.

If you buy a GM Bug Deflector (at least for the Avalanche), it will come with a kit of dbl sided 3M tape to secure the moldings.

I've had my truck up to 120mph and no abnormal wind noise/rattling windshield. It was not quiet...but what truck driving both axles at 120mph at full throttle and still accelerating would be?

Most everytime this has come up the owner has had a bug shield. In the few cases that haven't, resealing the top portion of the windshield did the trick.

I am willing to bet it is the bug deflector/shield. Had one on my 01 Tahoe, had the windsheid noise you descride.

Here is what happened. Took it into the windshield repair guy due to a rock chip. He replaced the windshield. A day later, I put a bug deflector on. I heard the noise for the first time. Took it back to him and had the windshiled reinstalled. The noise was still there. Checked this website and found guys with the same problem and their solution was to take off the bugshield. Took off the bug shield, NO NOISE. Sold the bug deflector/shield.

I think there is a fix in the "guides" section of this site.

I have a bug sheild and I swear it is the little rubber flaps that cover the hood hinges near the bottom of the windsheild. If you look over your dash while you're driving you can see them bouncing from the hinge to the hood!!!

Im going to take a piece of thick foam and glue it to the bottom of my hood where it is hitting and that should stop the sound while still allowing movement of the flaps when i open da hood. :wtf:

Your thoughts???

Noticed the same thing on my '01 the day I put the AutoVentshade Bugflector II on it. Took a rock to the glass yesterday so I'll see if there's also a problem with windshield seals when theyswap that out.

My friends '03 1500HD Silverado had that noise and we finally traced it to the windshield wipers. The pass side blade kept lifting up and hitting the windshield, could be a weak arm. My '02 SD now has a drivers side arm that lifts at high speed and dosen't allow the blade to clear the windshield. Try putting the wipers on and see if the noise goes away.
