I am hearing that there is some sort of Knock out for the Alignment of Camber on a Tahoe.. But some say that GM eliminated this in 1999.. I have a 2001.. The Firestone Mechanic said I need to have something "Punched out" to get the alignment correct.. I am tryi to see if it's just a bunch os BS

The piture below is my Driver front wheel.. I see some plastic in there... What is the Story?????

stick a flat head in there and pop out the plastic. then tell him he can align it now. he is prob a rookie and thinks its like the old style.

The Retarded Mechanic sat down next to me and explained for 10minutes to me that I am going to have to bring the truck back when I can leave it for 1hour.. He told me the "Modification" take 1/2hour per side...

$80/Hour....... :flag: I ought to take this picture... Along with your recommendation and show it to the manager.... This is total BS.. I am so glad I know enough about mechanics to know I was being lied to...

Still have to fix the steering wheel.. Because this reject could not make sure it was straight before he started...!!!! I really hate stupid people.... This is Alignment 101!!!

You dont' have to punch anything out for your application, that plastic is supose to be there. On the alighnment machines at my school, the computer shows you an animation on how to make adjustments, all the plastic piece looks like it does it guide the pin that is part of the adjustment plate as its rotated. Nothing special.

I have the same set-up on my 2004 GMC Sierra 1500, to adjust camber all you have to do is loosen the nut, and I use an open end wrench to move the offset plate to bring the camber angle back to 0* then re-torque the nut/bolt. Its VERY straight forward. About the steering wheel being off, maybe the "mechanic" didnt' center the steering wheel, but the alighnemt heads could be out of calibration too. Good luck!

Thanks!!!! Actually you are correct.. the mechanic never set the wheel straight before doing the align... :flag:

It cannot for the life of see how an alignment Tech can forget that.. Like Taking a Crap and forgetting to check for Toilet paper!!! Gimme a break....

Yaa, thats total BS!!! That guy shouldn't even be called a alighnment technition, just a mechanic. If he can't understand a simple suspension system, he's in the wrong buisness. He didn't even make good on the steering wheel being off?!?! Where did you get this done if I might ask?

Firestone!!! Go Figure... You'd think that they have simple procedures down pat....Since that is their specialty... um Tire and Alignments :flag:

Hi,

I have read a few posts about the knock outs not being in 1999 and later GM's . Can someone give me a definitive answer on a 2001 GMC Yukon XL 2500. Does it have knock outs that must be removed before an alignment? I had it at a very reputable full service repair shop for the ailgnment, and they quoted me 84.50 for the alignment and 169.00 to remove the knockouts. I would greatly appreciate the help with this question.

Thank You,

Grant
