Raced an SSR

I was riding around last night and came up behind a black SSR with dealer plates on it. There was a Mustang GT kind of hanging off his right rear quarter checking him out. When I pulled along side the `Stang he kind of backed off which allowed me to get out from behind the SSR and pull up next to him. I goosed the throttle a couple times to get his attention but he didn`t respond though I did see him eyeballing me. As luck would have it we caught the next light.

When it went green I pulled away fairly hard, probably half throttle, not really knowing if he was going to go or not. His front end was next to my window when I heard him go hot so I laid into it. I pulled away from him pretty steadily till about 70mph when he shut it down.

The SSR is a nice car/truck. Its supposed to have a v8 5.3 in it. but the guys who buy them dont know how to drive them. I have stomped down at least 4 of them with my v8 4.8 gmc sierra.

The 2005 SSR will have the 6.0 LS2 with 395 horses according to this site.

That sounds more like it. In a comparo that Truckin' did a few months ago, the SSR was a distant 2nd behind the Srt 10. Considering power to weight ratios, the gap is closed up a bit.

there is no way a 1/2 ton truck kept up with a SSR, they are just too light.

On the contrary. Per Chevy`s web site :

Curb weight

Silverado ECSB LS

4510 lbs.

SSR

4760 lbs.

oink, oink....

why is it so heavy?

It's probably heavier due to all the components to make the retractable hard top work (that's why convertibles usually weigh more than hardtops). Plus it has a factory hard tonneau cover. The LS2 powered SSR is what should have been in the SSR to begin with. I wouldn't go looking for SSR's when they start to hit the streets. Chris

And by the way, the dealer around me can't keep them in stock. He's a good friend of mine, he's sold 28 of them. Usually about 2-3 a week. There's about 10 or so running around town. I've seen more of them than I have of the "great" :jester: new TITAN!

its the dead body they put in the trunk of every ssr. The funny part about a SSR is that I sat in one at a car show, the cup holder is the cheapest cup holder on the planet.

And by the way, Cool Zr2, I did`nt keep up with him. I beat him.

:jester:

WOW THATS SOO COOL!!!

I've beat reg cab, short box, 2wd, 3.73, 5.3's before, and whooped them, I'm sure I wouldn't even have to hit the carpet to beat you.

Hey ZR2, I'll take you up on that. I cant say for sure that I'll whoop yur ars since I dont know what kind of times you actually run, but heck I'll give it a go. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get a good look at my tailgate, btw I'm stock.

Cool Z,

I can`t understand why you have a burr under your saddle. I started this thread, relating how I out ran an SSR and you reply that there`s no way it happened because an SSR is so light. So I guess you thought I was lying about it and thats fine but when I pointed out your error about the weight of the trucks do I hear, "Oh sorry. My bad"? No.

Since I don`t have any reason to lie and don`t like being accused if it, I reminded you that I won the race, you came back with some macho bs about how you out run trucks like mine all the time. So what? Till you`ve out run my truck it`s just talk.

Seems to me you just don`t like to be proven wrong.

:sigh:
