fuel problems

When my dad first starts his truck, it doesn't want to run. It surges and sometimes kills. This happens if the engine is hot or cold everytime he starts the truck. The fuel filter has been replaced. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Thanks!

How does it run when its warm?..Has the coolant temp sensor been checked or replaced?...Can you see any fuel dripping from the injectors after the engine has been turned off?...Have you checked for vacuum leaks?...Does the idle HUNT when its warm?..Check the Throttle Position Sensor(TPS) or Idle Air Control (IAC) solonoid...I know that seems like alot ...But these are a few things I would check 1st

It could be dirty injectors or water in fuel too.

As it turns out it was the fuel pump. We replaced it today and the truck seems to be running fine
