I have a 4.8L Regular Cab 2003 Silverado w/ 373 gears. I put on an air-raid intake, a power-aid throttle body spacer, a magnaflow exhaust and a custom computer "chip". I also have 22's on my truck but they're real light & not chrome. It was also in AZ and it was real hot, probably 90's. DOES consist 16.3 TIMES @ 85 MAKE SENSE??????

my truck runs mid 16's as is.  something is amiss.... may be wheels

From your sig it is a heavy truck with oversized tires and those tires do not help your ET times as it is like installing taller gears. I would not ever expect it to make it is the 15's as equipped and his truck engine has a lot less torque and taller gearing too.

haha no no

Im saying if I can run mid 16's with my truck the way it is, he should easilly be into the low 15's

my 5.3l TB does 15.7 @ 90

You've been bamboozled

No way, you are dreaming, a 4.8 with 3.73 and big wheel and tires in a truck, never happen. Maybe with 4.10 or deeper though. I doubt he is using more than 2 gears in a run and if he uses 3 it is very brief and that accelleration dies off a lot in 3rd at speed too with his setup.

What kind of custom computer "chip"? Did you get one of those resistors off ebay and run the IAT open or something? Basically I thought the only way to change the tune on these trucks is either a custom PCM program, or a handheld programmer to change it.

I'd say like everyone else too, that your wheel and tire combo has a whole lot to do with it, (Even if they are light enough, and you have the right size tires, you couldn't be running close to the stock diameter wheels/tires with 22's) Your 3.73 ratio is probably something like 3.23 now with those... Also, (from my autoX days) you never want any more unsprung weight than you can get by with. Larger diameter and more weight (even if it's 3 or 4 pounds per wheel) = bad.

He has a lot of weight to move and the 4.8 is a strong engine but it needs to rev to make its power. If 1/4 mile times are your "bag" he needs at least 4.10's with stock type tires or 4.56's with biggers ones and that engine to get good times. With 4.56 and a good launch it should make low 15's at least and maybe very high 14's if he is lucky. They 4.8 makes its best power above 3500 RPM's and up to about 5500pm or more and the quicker you get it there and longer you keep it there the better your times will be.

You're right on about the power delivery with the 4.8....

By raising the factory shift detents from 5200 to 5600 with a custom tune, I could tell a major difference in mine... Also, like you said, the lighter gear sets like the 3.73 and especially the 3.42 (like mine) really hinder performance from a dead stop. From a 20MPH roll or better though, you'd be surprised at the acceleration with even a 3.42 combo. Removal of T.M. helps a lot too. With a little tuning, the performance increase can be pretty dramatic.

This is somewath true about rolling performance in 1st gear but upper gears will suck with a tall axle and this "fix" is short lived. Also, I re-read the original post and he is at altitude as well and a deep axle is a must if you want good ET's times too because of reduced engine power at altitude.

I ran this weekend with my 03' ECSB 4.8 with 3.42's and ran 16.4. Full tank go gas and spare tire it was in the 90's and very very humid here in Louisiana. It only ran 6 times so I could have shaved some of that off. Current mods are FIPK2(was removed as well as headlight) Flows,93 octane custom tune 0 TM, Transgo+vette servo, and cooler. I will be getting 4.10's in a couple of days and Ill post my time! I wasnt pissed with those numbers considering conditons and gears but I hope to knock alot of that off with the 4.10's What do you guys think I will knock off my 1/4. Oh yeah I dynoed 2 weeks ago at 252rwhp! Hope this helps some what- Oh yeah I have stock 16's and I wouldnt even waste my time running at the track with 22's!!!!!

I've been considering getting 4.10's installed in my truck also, if you don't mind, how much have you been quoted for that install with parts?? (If you're not installing them yourself..)

Thanks!

From 3.42's to 4.10's should shave a sec or so off of it if you get a good launch.
