Tire pressure

I filled the tank and reset the trip odometer to see how far before it's empty again. Well, the needle is now all the way to the left and the odometer shows only 371.1 miles. Checked the manual and found that the gas tank is 31 gallon capacity  :0 This can not be!!! Most of the miles were freeway so it should be close to 17, not 12.

Check the tire pressure on the 4 wheels and found they were 2-3 psi lower than the recommended 30 psi for 265 tires. Wonder if I can get them a little over-inflated. Anyone tried this before?

I don't know what tirees come on the "burb", but the factory tires on the pick-ups I think have a max inflation on the sidewall @ 36 psi or so.

Your "burb" is heavier than a pickup, so 30 psi seems low to me.  Check the sidewalls and if they can handle it, I'd up the pressure to 35 psi.  I used to run my 1/2 ton Silverado at 36 psi and I run my 2500HD @ 55 psi (max 80 psi).

spham, I have a Tahoe with 265's.  I just checked my tire pressure last week (I finally had time to inflate them this morning).  They were all at 30psig or so.  They are all at 35psig now.  I unfortunately, haven't been keeping a close eye on the pressures like I should other than a quick visual each time I get in my truck.  ???   I've been averaging around 17mpg with mixed city, highway, and interstate.  The best I've gotten was on a 70 mile business trip where I averaged 20mpg!!!!  (The secret is staying around 55mpg.)  It was mostly country highway.  I wonder what I could get with the smaller engine.

Well assuming that you used all 31 gallons you got about 12mpgs.  When you filled up how many gallons did you add?

How many miles are on the burb?  If it's brand new the engine is still being broken in and the mielage will increase at about 5,000 miles.  Right now w/ my truck I get about 13mpgs w/ a 4.8 and 3.73 gears.  I do mostly city driving though and have a heavy right foot.

Try to keep your tire pressure high it gives you better mpgs and better handling, I can always tell when mine need some air because the truck gets sloppy at freeway speeds.

Thanks guys. I just realized this morning that from when the low-fuel light comes on to whe it's full, it's  only 26 gallons, not 31. Guess they want 5 gallons reserve. That would make about 14 mpg. Considering it's only 700 miles on the odometer and the tires could be much more inflated, I'm optimistic

It'll improve over time.  You've got to watch the low fuel light, it comes on very early and fuel tank gauges aren't the most accurate, mine will fluctuate about an 1/8 tank for no reason.
