Fuel Pump Failing?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a 2000 GMC Savana 2500 Cargo van. Recently, the truck just dies out by itself. It can start right up again but it dies whenever it feels like it. Sometimes when I start the engine, it sputters and shakes. When the light turns green and I try to get it going it sputters a lot and doesn't move no matter how much gas I give it. There was a while when I could push the gas pedal down and it would regain consciousness but now the engine dies no matter what I do whether its moving, idling, etc. The Service Engine soon light has been on since 130000 miles (dealer fixes but light goes back on in a day ot two everytime) and now it has 178000 miles.

Could it be the Catalytic Converter?

Any help/advice would be appreciated

What is it that they are supposedly fixing?

It could be,but it could also be a bunch of other stuff also, fuel pump, mass airflow sensor, throttle position sensor, fuel pressure regulator,PCM, wiring problems, etc.....Do you know what codes are tripping the SES light to come on? If it goes back on and runs like crap a couple days after the dealer supposedly fixes it...I would suggest going to a different dealer or shop....just a suggestion

My dealer fixes a whole bunch of things, This is probably the 5th fuel pump for the 5th year since I bought this van new in 2000. Most of the time it is the fuel pump or fuel pump harness that gives it trouble. I think that this problem could be the Catalyctic converter since the emissions seem to be getting worse now. I might just purchase a new catalyctic converter and replacing it to see how it runs. By the way, does anyone know how to remove the transmission rear support on a 4L60E?

Thanks for the advice,

Tufftrux
