I am getting this message on my truck (2000 z71). I did a search on this board, seems like changing the switch would be a good place to start. My question is does anyone have a part number for GMparts-direct. Also my local dealer says he would need a vin number on my truck in order to help me because he says they are showing 2 different switches for my year model. Please help. MMM.

I took mine into the dealer. They did a hard reprogram and that fixed the problem. Has not returned since December 2003.

I would to that before tearing out the old switch. my .03

Thanks, the only thing is my truck is no longer under warranty. I just figured I may try changing the switch first because I can do this myself, and if this takes care of the problem, I can avoid the dealer and be money ahead in the long run.

You definitly want to get a code out of it first before you throw any parts at...

but if it does turn out to be a bad switch(in dash), it's really pretty cheap. I replaced my 4wd switch (with autotrack transfer case), because some of the lights in it stopped working, and it only cost me $46 with my discount (I work at a different dealer...membership has it's priviledges). Still, I don't think the list price was all that bad anyway.

Do you know anybody with a scan tool?

won't disconnecting the battery for about 30 min take care of reseting the computer/code? It seems to have worked on mine, when I replaced my switch I disconnected the negitive battery terminal for 30 min and since that time no more light!

for 99-02 trucks the switch is more than likly the problem

i think it's at 2725 code

03 and up have a different switch and have different 4wd issues where

and sensore replacement and reprogram is the fix

i have not heard of any switch problems on the 03 up trucks

I believe the switch is P/N 15709327.

I got that from another post on the board.

Its under $40 from gmpartsdirect or partszoneonline.

I can't guarantee that's the correct P/N though. Probably best to check with the online dealer parts dept before ordering.
