change engine oil light

Recommended Posts

I changed my own oil about 1000 miles ago... and now my "change engine oil" light is coming on when i start the truck.... do i really need to change it again? I never "reset" it when I changed it-- how do you do this?

does this system just monitor engine hours or mileage? Or does it acutally analyze the oil? Seems far out if it does an analysis....

lemme know

Thanks!

Hi, no you dont need to change your oil again. Pay no attention to those oil life monitors, they are not accurate at all. They cannot sense the quality of the incoming air and if you drive city or highway. Just change your oil + filter every 3,000 miles.

About resetting the light, I dont know what options you have on your truck so your best bet is to look in your instruction manual to find out the proper way to turn off the light. Good luck.

Monitors run hours, mileage, and I think there are some other inputs, calcualted load or something. Personally, I just change my oil when I need to(I put a cling sticker on the windshield), and when the light comes on I just reset it using the method mentioned above.

The system isn't that "smart", doesn't actually analyze the oil. Can't account for dust, moisture, etc.
