2005 LLY reflash and regular service

Had my 2005 in for service for the first time at 1850mi. Got the oil changed in engine and rear diff (with about 500 miles of towing). Also had the engine reflashed with latest firmware. My truck was built in 8/2004. I requested the reflash as a preemptive move; I currently have no engine problems. I learned about this reflash at the diesel page dot com.

My dealership provided me with a printout of what was and was not changed in my engine, plus a description for each:

#1 15231600 15231600 new software to correct problems occuring at the assembly plant, does not address any service issues.

#2 15112496 15245558 service cal fixes: engine combustion knock elimination/reduction at 80 to 140 mpa rail pressure under light to medium throttle driving, rough idling and white smoking condition elimination/reduction, low speed light throttle driving surge ellimination

#3 15233727 15245551 service cal fixes: engine combustion knock elimination/reduction at 80 to 140 mpa rail pressure under light to medium throttle driving, rough idling and white smoking condition elimination/reduction, low speed light throttle driving surge ellimination

#4 15233732 15233732 new software to correct problems occuring at the assembly plant, does not address any service issues.

#5 15233724 15233724 new software to correct problems occuring at the assembly plant, does not address any service issues.

#6 15233734 15233734 new software to correct problems occuring at the assembly plant, does not address any service issues.

#7 15233750 15233750 new software to correct problems occuring at the assembly plant, does not address any service issues.

I presume the above must refer to some sort of patch list. #2 and #3 were applied to my engine yesterday (9/20/2004). Other than that, truck runs great. So far no manufacturing defects.

I need to have similar service done to my 2005 GMC. It's also an 8/04 build & I've got about 3,000 miles on it now. ...Curious how much all of that service work cost at your dealership?

Question: I just took delivery of my Chevy 2500HD Duramax Crew 4x4 last Friday September 18th. Do I need to get this service correction performed or was it done by my dealer? How do I check?

Sorry, but I'm not familiar with diesel issues.

Thanks,

I think I paid about $280 all in all. I'll try to remember to look at the actual invoice when I get home.

Of the items I listed above, the only one that might apply to you is the firmware update. I doubt the dealers are installing it as a preemptive measure. From notes elsewhere it sounds like a first step remedy to other problem symptoms. I did not have any problems with my engine. If you do not have any problems with yours, it is a pure judgement call on your part. I had to pay for the update because it was not installed as part of fixing a problem reported by me. That does not bother me, however.

I had no way of checking what version(s) it had, but thanks to the update I now know what versions I have ;-) My personal problems are that (a) I do not like to waste time with extra trips to the dealer so I combined it with a visit I needed to do anyway and (b) I do not want to provoke a known problem just because of a missing software patch!

Who knows I might never have needed this patch in the first place. But, hey, I pay car insurance for the same reason... just in case.
