2000 Silverado bumper question

Hi I recently just purchased a 2000 Chevrolet 2500. My front grill is a little screwed up so i am goin to be replacing it. A simple grille insert will not work.

I noticed that my grille/bumper is actually smaller than the say 2001 or 2002 2500HD's. The HD's have a taller grille so the bumper cuts down in the middle to allow room for the taller grille.

Since I am goin to replace the grille I am thinking of replacing the bumper too. If I do this though I want to go with the Taller grille and the HD bumper but I am having trouble finding the correct part numbers.

Does anyone have these offhand? Thankyou.

Here are some pics of my truck. I also uplaoded a pic of the bumper setup im looking for if you look at the pics you can see the difference im talking about.

Also I was just kind of curious about the 2000 2500 in general. Was the HD optioin available in 2000. Only cuz mine seems to be an HD but only says 2500 on the door. I ran all the option on my truck and the parts that can say heavy duty are haeavy duty. I have the adjustable torsion bars, tranny temp guage, heavy dutry suspention, tranny, rearend, etc. Many of my friends have 03/04 HD's but i cant seem to find any considerable difference between thirs and mine besides the front end. I was told because it was beacsue they werent actually labeled HD's yet but im not to sure.

Either way its a great truck and I love it. Thanks for any help

I have a 2000 2500HD 4x4 as well, It has been a great truck- It was labeled as an 2500HD on the window sticker. Got it with 44 miles on it.... In the 2000 model year, GM did not have the current "HD" series of trucks out yet, the 1-tons were still old body style. Our trucks have an 8600lb GVWR while the 01 and up 2500HD's have a 9200LB GVWR. The 01's and up also have heavier rear axles (Full Floating 10.5's and 11.5's), more engine options (D-Max and the 8.1 Big Block), and an available Allison Automatic.

I have been told the reason the 01-02 HD's have the "Power Dome" hood and the higher body height is to clear the bigger engines/trannies that were available in those years. They have toned the body styling differences down somewhat in the past few years, but there is still a difference. The 01-02 hood and grill should fit if you can find the correct part numbers from what I understand. Good luck with fixing up your grill/bumper. Nice looking truck!

I know it can be done because Tom from TByrne Motorsports (one of our preffered vendors), did the same mod to his 2500 Suburban (grill/hood/bumper). I don't believe it was a direct bolt-on though because I think he had to do some modifications to make it all work. You may want to check out his website on the left column, and send him an email about it...

Yeah Im not to worries about some custom modifications. I have done pretty extensive modifications to my car. I just need to find the correct part numbers though.

First off the '99-'00 2500's were not HD's no matter what options they had,the highest GVWR they had was 8600 lbs. You had to get an old-body style truck to get a higher GVWR as "2500HD4X" said in the earlier post.

I do have some part numbers for you also:

HOOD-15745931-LIST $448.41

GRILLE-15088290-LIST $425.99

BUMPER-12472946-LIST $381.63

BUMPER CAP-15746399-LIST $188.47

Please note that the bumper on your 2500 "non-HD" is the same as the "2500HD" so if there is nothing wrong with your bumper all you need is the upper bumper cap and not a new bumper itself, you can reuse yours,so that would save you some $$$$!

Also as Shaners said earlier it is not a direct bolt-on,I know a few guys that have done it and the only thing thats bolts right on is the hood, there will be some mods. needed for the grille and bumper cap to fit.

I compared a 2001 HD with a non-hd the other day with the grille removed from both.

THE HD GRILLE & BUMPER WILL NOT DIRECTLY BOLT ONTO THE NON-HD TRUCK.

THE HOOD WILL.

The core support on the HD truck is much taller than the non-hd trucks. The difference isn't the top of the support, it is the bottom. The bumper is mounted much lower in relation to the top of the grille on the HD.

Just measure the differnece in the space between the headlight and the park lamp and it is obvious that the 2 don't interchange.
