Stupid Parking Brake Cable!

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm rebuilding the rear brakes on my '98 Silverado Z71. On the left side, I made the mistake of disconnecting the parking brake cable from the arm. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get the spring back enough to get the cable back on.

Any hints?

I tried unbolting the guide brackets along the frame, but no help. I about to rip out the pedal, but would rather not.

Thanks- Marc

After a couple more hours of screaming at it...

I figured it out...

Get enough slack by pulling out all the guide brakets. Then pull really hard (I used pylers to get a grip and used the frame as leverage) on the cable and disconnect the coupling halfway up the frame. Then you have all the slack you need to get that cable on. Getting the coupling back together takes some muscle.
