Dead Battery

Well today I was trimming some bushes and listening the radio in my truck at the same time, and of course when I was finished with the bushes, the battery was dead in the truck (not totally, just wouldnt crank the engine). After jumping it (I would have just used my battery charger, however I was a ways from the garage) It started up and the engine was kinda chuggin for a minute. I revved it and it seemed fine, however I started to drive it and it died twice before making it back the my house. It was idle'n much lower than normal, and revved real sluggish. I diconnected the pos cable for a few minutes, reconnected and refired. It now runs like normal.

 

After all that, My question is: WHAT THE HELL? I have never experienced something like this in any car/truck....Would could I have done to it to make it run that way for a short time, or should I just forget about it? Anyone have experience in this?

The computer might have needed to "relearn" after the battery died.

Computer probably did need a reset. It might have gotten confused with the change in load on the charging circuit and tried to compensate unsuccessfully.

 

I've run across this before after my 96 Subaru's timing belt change - car ran a little crappy after putting it all back together. I had forgotten to plug in an air sensor but it still ran rough. I disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes to wipe the computer and everything worked fine.

Like the two gents said computer needed to be reset. If I was you get a Optima red-top battery. good luck

Thanks for the thoughts guys....that just solidifies my thoughts as well...thats why I immediately disconnected the battery.

I had the issue after disconnecting my battery to weld on the exhaust. RE-started it and had to rev it up and drive it then let it sit once it had re-learned the idle air volume. It runs fine, just a computer thing i guess. Now if i could just fix that d**n fuel level sender I'll be happy. Nothing like puttin 75 bucks( I live in california) in the tank and seein it say low fuel! haha.
