FUEL GAUGE NEEDLE MOVING AT A STOP

Ok my new thing is that when im stopped at light, I can see the fuel gauge fluctuating all over the place. Can the float level be to blame or is it the cluster?

I have an 03 Silverado. When I get down to about a quarter of a tank indicated and come to a stop the gas guage will drop to empty and the low fuel warning, aural and visual, will come on. After a short wait or if I accelerate again the gas guage will go back to a quarter of a tank and the warnings will go off.

i just went through this. it is the fuel sensor in the tank. it costs 550.00 total for gm to fix. they MUST drop the tank to change it out. this is a very common problem. some people just live with it, but i could not stand it. i dropped it off to be fixed at my chevy dealer, and now it is perfect. it has nothing to do with the cluster.

WOuld you know if they changed out the whole pump assembly or just the float?

I just noticed my guage starting to bounce very slightly the other day...son of a gun. Until it starts sweeping all over the place I'll live with it. When it does...time to drop the tank.

having the same problem with mine. most noticable at around 1/4 a tank, and it does a little dance after I have filled it up with fuel, will go all the way to empty and then SLOWLY creap its way back up to Full. I also notice that sometimes while the vehicle is moving if I move the gear selector into neutural the needle will jump down to empty very quickly.

Not sure, I have read several problems here, but mine acts like it is vibrating and constantly moves (kinda like a buzz in the fuel gauge) My entire fuel pump assembly has been replaced and it continues, so I am thinking mine is in the gauge due to the extra vibration caused by the exhaust system.

My 98 has a low fuel warning.

My 2000 GMC Classic K2500 starts this at a 1/2 tank and it sucks really bad but thats kind expensive to replace though i will live with it for a little while.

Mine started today. I have a 2000 GMC Sierra Z71 (87,777 miles). I called around to several dealerships and one of the three mentioned that the 2000+ models have a fuel sensor leveling kit they can fix this with instead of replacing the whole fuel pump. If your truck is running fine, this is probably all you have to get replaced.

 

The were talking about $550 for the fuel pump replacement and around $380 for just the kit. Make sure you know about this.
