Front End Jiggles

I have a 2004 GMC 3500 SRW 8.1/4.10 4 wheel drive crew cab long box with 13,500 miles. I have a problem that I also noticed when I took it for a test drive. Of course the dealer doesn't know anything anyways. It is more apparent when going around exit ramps with little bumps. or just down a road with little bumps It feels. like the right front jiggles to the point where you can feel it coming through the steering wheel. Something is definitely loose or worn out. I notice it on the right front. It also seems that when I get to about 70 it starts to make a howling noise. Its going into a different dealer tomorrow and hopefully they figure it out.

Have you had the intermediate steering shaft checked? Do a search on steering clunk and see if that describes your problem. It's a clunk that can be fealt in the wheel but can't be heard.

The howling noise could be a wheel bearing or CV joint...

I just had my intermediate steering shaft replaced today. I Had the same problems you are describing. The dealer ship i went to knew what it was as soon as i started explaining the problem.

guys wasnt the intermint shaft on the older trucks not

2004 i thought they have the updated shaft already installed?

my truck is an 2003. I am not sure how many years this was a problem. Like i said, they replaced the steering shaft in my truck yesterday. drives like new again.

mmmmmmmmm "front end jiggles". For some reason that doesnt sound as bad as it probably is.

Exactly what you guys said. Put on some lubrication and it is good to go. Well at least it doesn't feel jiggly anymore. I took the info you shared with me and contacted the dealer the first thing in the morning and just mentioned it. Hopefully it saved him a lot of time. Thanks everyone.

I have a 2004 2500LD and it has the "jiggles" also....took it to the dealer and they said it was definitely the intermediate steering shaft....on national backorder and once they get one in for my truck, the "jiggles" will be solved. So, jiggle on over to the dealer and get your name on the list for a shaft.
