The Z-71 option is nothing more than an offroad protection package (Shocks, skid plates, etc.) It got it's name from the option number that the dealer uses to order the package. This package is only avaiable on 4WD trucks but is not limited to the engine size.

Hope it helps

Thanks guys, I knew what the Z71 package included but I figured in 95% of the Z71 trucks that they would have the bigger motor and just wanted to make sure...It has a 350 so now Im interested in this truck...

I know all about TBI but I dont know much about the Vortec trucks other than they can have leaky intakes and fuel pump proplems. Anything else I should know?

The 96-99 OBS Z71 only came with a 5.7, if you know of a 5.0 or a 4.3 then they are wanna-be trucks, look in the glove box for the "Z71" code for conformation.

I have seen a few "w" (4.3) or "m" (5.0) trucks with z71 stickers slapped on it, and when I look on the glove box it dosen't have the RPO Z71 code, I have seen a couple at dealers, throw on a set of 30 dollar stickers and up the price 600-700 dollars, works on suckers i guess.

I have seen both 4.3 and 5.0 obs z71. And they did have z71 in the glove box. They are rare though.

I'm not saying your wrong but I have never seen one that was a true "off" z71, I would however believe it and wouldn't be too surprised to see one.

I'm sure that your could get a 4.3L or 5.0L Z71. This was only a suspension package, not a powertrain package. However, most of the people who wanted a Z-71 also wanted a 5.7L or 5.3L to go with it, So most Z-71s are equipped with the more in demand V-8s. Not a matter of impossible to find, just rare to find. Sorta like of hard it is to find a V-8 4x4 anymore with a 5 speed. They're out there, but most want an AT so that's what they put in the majority of their vehicles.

I guess anythings possible. In fact i saw a 94 S10 ZR2 2wd once. Give me an 84 Chevy Citation and I can turn it into a Z71 if you dumb enough to believe it...........

5.7 ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
