Has anyone changed power extending mirrors to power folding? If so what needed to be changed? Will they work with existing control and wiring?

Swapping power extend mirrors for power folding a easy deal. If your truck has power extend mirrors, power folding units are a direct replacement, plug and play. I did this back in April on my 04 2500HD. Bought the mirrors from HERE. Very good guy to deal with, super prices and quick shipping. Once the power folds are installed they will be fully functional. This includes the power fold, in glass signal and adjustments. Good luck and e-mail me if you have any questions.

What about the DIC. Can you use the curb assist feature? I have the camper style extenders and on my DIC menu there is not a curb assist feature. Can you flash the PCM and get that option?

Curb assist does not work. If I remember right, reflashing will not fix it either. The only way a reflash would make them functional (curb assist) is if you have memory option. This would be in a Tahoe, Suburban, etc. for driver 1 and driver 2 stuff. Would be seat position, radio presets, mirror locations, etc. Worth a phone call or a stop in at your local dealer. Curb assist wasn't a big deal to me since the mirrors power fold, all I was concerned about.

"LT" models have the memory function. A full BCM flash will add the new directories to your DIC, and will allow those functions (curb assist, memory) to work properly. I did this with my truck.

linda is right,a full BCM flash will work,my truck has the curb-tilt feature but not the memory pkg. (thats only on the trucks and SUVs with the heated leather seats,and I don't like leather) in other words you don't need to have the memory feature to have the curb-tilt feature

Tom,

Where are you at? I have power extenders w/ integrated blinkers. Do your mirrors have the blinkers? I would think about a trade if it did not cost us an arm and a leg for shipping. I never use my extenders. I live in Utah. If your close I will seriously think about it.

Do they have the signal indicaters? I was going to buy 2 from GM but list is around $550 ea....Proud of them I guess

I'm in Connecticut, I use my truck all the time and wouldn't be able to be with out my mirrors, that's why I was thinking close by(Eastern NY, Mass, RI or CT). My mirrors are the Power folding, heated, intregrated turn signal with black plastic housing(I think chrome is another option)

Thanks, $285 is better than $1100. You say you bought a set there? Are they "GM" mirrors or aftermarket?

The mirrors are indentical to GM. If I remember right, GM out sources the power fold and power extend mirrors anyway. Either way, I am very pleased with them. If you want, contact the guy that sells them at streetbeatkustoms.com and he should be able to help. He was VERY helpful when I was getting mine.

I also have the telescopic tow mirrors. It was a real let-down to discover that the right side mirror is flat rather than curved. Who the heck came up with that idea? The problem is that with a very long truck, the visibility is limited when it comes to objects rather close to you. This problem is exacerbated by things like extended cab versus a Suburban configuration where you can see a bit better through the side windows. I got very close to running over people a few times. Made changing lanes to the right a real bitch.

I ended up "solving" my problem by buying a replacement stick-on mirror for a Dodge Caravan that I glued right on top. Cost me less than $15. This gives me good visibility without taking away the indicator light and the telescoping feature. It is also a fix I can reverse. The downsides are (a) only about 60% of the mirror surface is curved, (b) the mirror heating is not as effective on the double mirror and © it does not look completely stock.

I feel ya! That's why I am trying to find a trade. The visibility on the passenger side is next to nothing. I am probably shooting myself in the foot here but I would not trade anyone anything that I did not tell the truth about. First of all the mirror is not the "demagnified" glass. It does not give you a large enough field of view. Second, there is no convex insert. Third, they set too low. When they are fully extended you have to set in a wierd position to take advantage of the extender. GM really dropped the ball on these mirrors. The previous design with the convex insert served the purpose alot better(even though they were ugly and not power extending). F&*d and Dodge nailed it on this device. I have friends who have both and they are like night and day compared to mine and the "flip up" ones on my friends Ram even look good. I am still watching for an aftermarket replacement glass for the passenger side that is the "objects are closer than they appear" type and with a convex insert and the turn signal is still visible.
