oil change question

I don't think I've had this happen before so I wanted to run it by you guys/gals.

Just changed the oil in my 2002 Tahoe 5.3 with 40,000. I drained the oil, dropped in 6 quarts of Mobile 1, and thought I was good to go. That was until I checked the dipstick. The oil level was way past the max line as if I had put an extra quart in it. I let the truck run for 5-10 minutes, turned it off, and checked the dipstick again. It was still way past the max line. Drove the truck around for about a half hour and then let it sit for about an hour. When I checked the dipstick again, the level was just below the max line where it should be.

Do I have any reason to be concerned here? The only thing I did different was change from Mobile 1 5W-30 to Mobile 10W-30 and that was just by accident that I picked up the different weight.

I'm trying to baby this thing and that is why I'm concerned a little.

Let me know if you have any ideas or explanations, or if I am just being a little too worried over nothing.

thanks,

Dave in CA. :banghead:

No,your OK,Mine does the same thing sometimes,It takes a little while for the oil to drain back down to the pan when you shut the motor off. This is normal,as a matter of fact some owners manuals tell you to wait a few minutes after you turn off the motor to check the oil.

hey thanks for the ideas on what it may be. I am just going to keep checking the dipstick for a while. If it shows that high reading again, I am going to save myself the worry and redo the d**n thing. I changed the oil filter, it wasn't parked on a hill and...I don't know. thanks!
