89 GMC Stepside bench seat replacement?

Recommended Posts

I have a 1989 GMC stepside I bought new. It has 108K on it; it's just getting broken in. Unfortunately, the bench seat that came in it is getting broken down. To be honest, the seat has always been the only less than satisfactory thing about it in the 15 years I've owned it. Now that I have high mileage on me, it's also beginning to hurt my back if I drive it for even a short trip.

Has anyone ever replaced the bench seat with GM bucket seats (or any other more comfortable seat) for a reasonable cost? Buying a new truck doesn't interest me, I like the style of my '89 and I can work on it, it's not too complicated.

Thanks,

Jim

You can get a nice set of buckets thru J.C. Whitney for under $600 or if you want to go cheaper, any seats from '88 - '98 Chevy/GMC will fit and bolt right in from a salvage yard or even eBay or see if you have a custom shop in your area that may sell take-outs from a job they did....just a thought
