My new avalanche pictures

The side view, just before I got my highly nutritious breakfast:

Another side view:

The front, if you look at the center of the roof, you can see the satellite radio antenna installed:

Closeup of the Terk SR2 satellite antenna. The wires are run underneath the windshield molding and down into the door channels. The satellite tuner is pretty well hidden under the dash, so I can't really photograph it.

The Pioneer DEH-P9300 I had installed. The Metra Turbokit flush-mounts the radio, so it looks pretty good, and doesn't stick out like some of the other installation kits:

Another shot of the head unit:

What, 'cause it looks just like yours??  (And mine!)  :D

Seriously though, nice truck Eric, and great pictures.  That's a _very_ clean install of the Terk antenna too--looks factory, like the Onstar antenna (which I noted you _don't_ have--did you just not care for it, or did they just not have one configured that way?)

Anyway, welcome, welcome, and keep those Avs lookin' proud!

Couple of answers:

The advantages of Satellite radio is that you get 100 channels of radio, and it works anywhere in the United States, so if you drive a lot, you can keep listening to the same stations. Plus, it's CD quality sound.

I took a 500 mile trip in the Avalanche this weekend, and the satellite radio performed perfectly. Unless you park under an overpass, reception is constant, because the equipment has a built in buffer. The station mix is great, most of the channels have no commercials, and there are some pretty cool channels. There are 5 or 6 news channels, 2 comedy channels, and all sorts of music. They have a channel with nothing but reggae music, they get a satellite feed from a country station in Nashville, and all sorts of other good stuff.

At a minimum, it's $300 worth of equipment, and a $10/month service fee. If you want more information:

XM Radio

OnStar: I almost bought one with the OnStar, just so I could get the climate control. I just don't see myself having much use for it. We have cell phones, and I know how to read a map. I just can't see paying $200 a year for the service.

Eric:

That satellite setup sounds cool.  I read a piece in a magazine not to long ago about satellite radio and its "inertia" to really take off.  I guess I'll have to go somewhere where I can get a demonstration of it.

I could have gone either way with the Onstar.  I, too, can read a map, have my own phone, and probably won't pay what it costs when our first year of freebies run out.  But we like the climate control and _really_ like the electrochromic mirrors (something I've wanted ever since I started driving), and since most of them on the lot came that way anyway, we got it.  When the Onstar runs out, I'm gonna feel kind of silly with that stubby antenna sitting there, but maybe then it's time to take it out and put in a Terk satellite antenna in the hole!

Again, good truck.  It's nice that everybody's is a little different so you can get a feel for different options out there.

This is the color I would have to be looking at this weekend. Makes me want to go back and see a sales man. I am trying to hold off for a little while. I would like to see what they are going to do for the 2nd year of production. I would like to see the radio controls on the steering wheel and some kind of difference between this trucks dash and my 2000 Silverado also. I have the fever pretty bad.

What kind of deals are you guys getting. How much are you getting off sticker, if any. And are you trading anything when you get your avalanche?
