AutoTrac Problem...

First problem with my truck, now a year and 2 days old......pushed the 4H button and it blinked and then went dark..no lights showing not even 2H...didnt actually go into 4H either, just kept on in 2H. Pushed 2H and it blinked and went back to normal.. have tried it several times and it is intermitent problem..sometimes I get 4WD sometimes I don't......sometimes the 4H light blinks and doesnt go on.........any hints? Still got plenty of warranty left so not that worried....

I got a hint,go back a year and 2 days and buy a truck with a manual shift transfer case. :notice: That honestly would have been the easiest way to avoid this problem, seems to be a fairly common problem with autotrac. Let me do some searching, I can probably give you an idea of what exactly is causing the problem.

In edit: Sorry, but I came up with several people having this problem, and nobody knows what is causing it.

What are the dealers saying about it? Is it fixible..dont see any bulletins on it......I will check it closer when appropriate but I think that it is shifting ok, its just not showing properly...I may be wrong though....NO SNOW UP HERE TO CHECK IT OUT IN !!!!!!

Does the "AutoTrac" work?

It sounds like it is probably in the electronic actuator in the Transfer case...

Mine use to do it. I would push it, it would go into 4HI, but the light wouldn't work. They replaced the buttons and it works perfectly now.

Thanks guys, I am taking it in today before I leave for an oil change and will have it checked. One year, 19,000 miles...not great but better than my last couple of vehicles which I averaged 25-30K....

Please post if you find anything out as my Z-71 did the exact same thing. I would press 4H and the lights went out but the truck stayed in 2 WD. I played with it for a while and then put it in AutoTrac and from there pressed 4H and that time it went into 4H. Subsequently, I can press 4H and it automatically goes in. My truck is 13 months old with 16,000 miles.

I'll let you know what they say/do... I didnt get it to the dealer to have it checked yet..ran out of time and theres no snow here in eastern New York yet so no hurry (boy am I setting myself up for a great "gee I sure wish I hadda taken it in....!")
