Heated Mirrors Failure Rate

Recommended Posts

As the weather is getting colder and I park outside things are starting to get covered in frost. To shorten everything I just had to have the dealer replace both side mirror lenses because the heater grids open circuited. Is this a common fault and being that I have now 57,300 km's on it I hope this doesn't happen again. Anyone else come across this? Just curious.

Yep,same here,I replaced my passenger side at 7,100 miles and so far in the last few months we have have changed 3 more passenger side mirror glasses in trucks here at the dealership, but its only on the passenger side and only on the '03-up trucks with the turn signal indicator in them, looks like they got a bad batch of mirrors. :chevy:

The same thing is happening to my Suburban with 13k on it. Passenger side mirror stopped heating. Everything else in the mirror works, the turn signal, the glass moves, and it folds in like it should. I was wondering if it was a common failure. Glad to see mine isn't the only one.

We have replaced a hundred stupid mirrors with in-op defrost.

Still haven't figured out what causes the fault, but we have torn apart a bunch and still can't see a problem.

Sorry I can't help mush except to let you know it is a COMMON problem.

Just out of curiosity, what activates the heating grid in the mirrors? Is it tied to the rear window defrost switch or is it automatic? I have the heated mirrors, but where I live, it's not needed all that often. I'm not even sure at this time whether they still work because of that.

The rear window defrost switch also activates the side mirrors.
