Hard water problems

In my part of the country, we have VERY hard water. This crap leaves some NASTY water spots on my new baby. I do what I can, like washing the truck in the shade and drying it off ASAP, but I still have some spots here and there sometimes. Do any of you have a cure for hard water spots? What do you use to get spots off that have dried already? This stuff is tough man!

Well they make some rubbing compounds to remove hard water spots, but I'm guessing you'd want a more permanent solution.  That's where the plumber comes in, get a water softener and put two hose bibbs in your garage.  One that's hard water (for watering lawn, etc.) and one that softened water (for washing your truck).  Other than that I don't know what else you can do.

The safest way that I know of to remove hard water spots is using a clay bar.  It's a detailer's trick, you can buy one at Pep Boys or most auto parts stores.  It comes with a quick-detailing spray, you spray a little on the truck, then rub it with the clay bar.  It pulls the dirt, trash, and water spots (minerals) out of the paint without removing any of the paint itself, unlike a rubbing compound which actually removes a small amount of paint.  It will make your paint like glass again.

Thanks for the tips you guys. The water softener is the way to go. But since I rent this place, it is out of the question. My slumlord is a d*#khead! And I don't have a garage either, or the truck would be in there out of the weather. I'll give the clay bar a try. Never thought about that. Thanks.

I have a laundry tub with a hose bib in the laundry room just inside from the garage.  This allows me to warm the water a bit on chilly days.  I do have to make sure I haven't crossthreaded the hose though or I end up with water everywhere.
