8.1L cost effective go fast

Does anyone here have experience with nitros on an 8.1? Don't have the 5K for a whipple. Open to other thoughts on cheap go fast as well.

nos is great but i woudlnt expect it to last long, neither with any forced induction, the 8.1 isnt a go fast motor, its a go fast when towing motor, try hooking up a boat to it, thats when its fast, but i think someone on ls1tech.com has a nos set up, or had one. i think the best option would be a blower or a low psi turbo, or some of those new heads and maybe headers, that should be good for 100 hp, other than that theres intake and tuning and exhaust, that should see about 50 hp, depending on what gas you run. I like my vararam but hte filter sucks im going to go pick up a paper one tomorow and put that in before the weekend, and maybe later upgrade to a kool blue filter (i like the fit better than k&n) but after i put this thing on, wow

Nitrous will provide you with a nice improvement in performance but that is only once in awhile. A supercharger can make a huge improvement all of the time but it does carry a much larger price tag. I had a supercharged 8.1 Suburban that ran 13.9s and towed a 10,000lb trailer like it wasn't there That truck made 407hp/558ft-lb torque at the rear wheels. I wouldn't say engine life will be reduced to much if your running a safe amount of spray or boost. A little is good, more is better but to much equals a rebuild. A turbo will also be a good mod to make power. I'll be posting some more info about the 8.1 turbo this week.

 

The basics like an induction, mid-length headers and programming can be good for about 45-50hp ($1800). These mods would make a noticeable difference in your daily driving/towing performance. Gas mileage might improve also.

Thanks for the replies, and tbyrne, let me know when you post info about adding a turbo. At this point, I think I'm gonna sift through my toy collection for an item to get rid of in place of a supercharger.
