OnStar Bonus

Got an added bonus when I activated the OnStar on my new Avalanche. The woman asked me if I wanted to activate my free 30 minutes of phone service. I wasn't going to let them drill the holes to mount my old analog phone in my new rig. I was going to spend 139.99 on a phone and 34.99 a month for digital service. Apparently I can get 30 minutes a month thru OnStar for 19.99 anywhere in the US, no long distance fee. Anybody out there using this service?

all I use is the "freebie" stuff that comes with Onstar for the first year...  $0.66/ minute seems a little steep especially since it's Analog and not digital (that's the way I understand it)

Might work for me though, since I never use over 30 minutes phone time in my personal vehicle per month. My wife sure can burn up the minutes in her Supercrew though. Never shuts up.

I bought 500 minutes good for a year at $175. That works out to 35 cents per minute. No roaming charges, no long distance charges, no peak/off peak times. Good anywhere in North America. Also, since it is a fixed mount in a vehicle they can up the wattage power so it can transmit farther than a handheld phone. Where I live in upstate NY there are still a lot of digital dead zones and the analog phones have more range. This is still true in much of rural America and that is why Onstar says they still use analog phones.

Plus the Virtual Advisor Internet info. is cool and free. But it does use up your phone units (minutes).
