Oil Pump malfunctions on 2005 Diesel's

My brand new 2005 GMC 3500 dually diesel with only 316 miles on it has been in the shop now for 2 weeks and counting. The oil pump malfuntioned. I heard a conversation between the mechanic and a factory rep. that they (the engine manufacturer) was aware of an assembly line problem that caused casting pieces left in the motor during assembly thus causing the oil pumps to lock up. Well can you feel my pain yet? I was a little upset and to be honest I was doing some stomping. Anyway the GMC rep. made me a offer to make me feel a little better...I prefer not to disclose that yet. Now after it took nearly 2 weeks to tear my motor down to replace the pump and reassemble it it was ready for a test drive. Well that didn't go so well. During the test drive they discovered the turbo had been destroyed due to the oil pump giving out. I'll learn more tomorrow about when they will get a turbo but, I was told that they are out of stock and may take up to 2 weeks to get one from overseas! I wish I bought a FORD!

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Oh an I am familiar with the "Lemon Law" and counting the days (30).

Be glad that Gm is taking there time to fix the issue and get your truck back to you ASAP. Ford on the other hand has crappy customer service skills and I would never buy a FORD if it was the last truck available. I know its tuff when a huge issue like this occurs but give them some time. I'm sure you will like the outcome.

I agree that it's disappointing your truck is in the shop this early in its life. However, it does sound like GM is doing all they can for you, to get you back up and running, short of cannibalizing a truck on the lot for parts to repair your truck. If you give up on the truck now and go with another brand, you may be regretting it later.

I don't feel the lemon law should be implemented in cases like this. Yes, the truck has been in the shop for 14 days so far, and if it makes it to 30 it surely is a shame. However, if it makes it to 30 days, it's not because they can't find the problem (or the fix), it's because the part that's needed is simply unavailable. They know where the problem is, it's just the supplier that can't get the part to them fast enough. I would certainly explore the option of asking GM to eat one month's payment on the loan, considering you didn't have use of the vehicle.

Well I'm hanging in there but it ain't easy. It's day 17 and counting that the truck has been in the shop. The turbo still isn't here. They found one 3 days ago in Wyoming. I guess it's not a big priority for that dealership to get it on a truck to California! I was told that yesterday (Thursday) FedEx was at the dealership and a gal at the front counter told them they had nothing going out....my turbo was all packaged and sitting in the back of the shop ready to go. Now lets talk about "customer service". It doesn't take much effort, especially after you realize you made an error, to grab one of the guys that are washing cars to have them jump in a vehicle and transport the part to FedEx/UPS/USPS to next day air the thing! Hell I'll even pay for the dang shipping! I'm having a terrible experience with GMC so far.

Oh something funny from yesterday...I was at the dinner table and received a call from GMC. The gal says... "I'm calling you to see how your enjoying your new GMC truck". I was calm and told her to prepare to take a few notes down to pass along to her bosses....LOL I was kind to her but, I did tell her how I felt. At the end of our conversation she wished me a Merry Christmas and I told her I asked Santa for a new truck....LOL

Are you blaming GM as a whole for the imcompetency of one dealer? I'm talking about the ditzy service writer or parts manager that was under the impression they had no packages to send out. I'm not saying this isn't common, just saying that it's not fair to fault the entire corporation for the faults of one dealer.
