Fullscreen or Widescreen?

I want to buy the SW Trilogy, but there's two versions to choose from, fullscreen and widescreen. I have a regular 27" Sharp tv. Which version should I get? Is anything cut out of the fullscreen version to make it fit on the screen? The fullscreen version said it was modified to fit the screen, but the widescreen version did not. If I ever do get a widescreen tv, will the SW fullscreen version look funky on it? Thanks for the help.

well, if you get the widescreen, you will get like 4 to 5 inches of black on top and on the bottom of the movie.... if u get full screen, you will have a full screen movie.. if it was me, id go with the full screen...

It really just depends on if you plan to buy a widescreen TV anytime soon. If not, then go with the full screen version because it will be more visibly appealing than the widescreen format on your TV.

My TV's not that big, think it's a 32", and I find that I prefer the widescreen because nothing is omitted. You do get the black empty space top and bottom, and I guess everything is smaller, but it's all there. Eventually, I'd like to have a huge set, so I stick with the widescreen for when the time comes. I've watched full screen stuff on the same tube too and enjoyed it just as much though...it's not like anything vital is cut out. Never watched a full screen movie on a widescreen TV, wonder if it does look funky?

Go widescreen. If you don't have a widescreen TV now, you might someday. Remember that these movies are keepers - so you might as well get the version that shows the movie the way it was meant to be seen.

I have always bought the widescreen, or "letterbox" versions for the reasons stated above; Future widescreen TV compatibility, and no loss from the original format.

Now that I have a widescreen TV...The last few years of buying the widescreen movies is really paying off.

Same here. I won't buy a movie if it's not in Widescreen. It's amazing how much is lost when it's formatted to fit the full TV screen on a regular TV.

Yeah, same as HDTV and standard definition.

I'll flip back and forth between the same show on two channels (one HD, and the other SD) just to see how much better I have it. :seeya:

If I have the choice, I buy everything I can in widescreen (and dts).

I may still have older fullscreen TV's but the truck has widescreen ones. Works great for both and maybe future needs.

On the flipside, when the blue-Ray DVD's become more popular, the full set of all six Star Wars will no doubt be released in HD. Then you can really enjoy a version that fits that screen type well - but the collection you just spent Thou$ands of $$ for will be obsolete anyway, so would it really matter buying a 4:3 aspect screen version now?

(I did)

Since they aren't overly expensive, do as I do. Get one of each. :seeya:

Widescreen will get you more of the edges that get cut off in full screen mode, but full screen won't be as compressed.

I'm done giving Lucas my money until he releases all six titles in one set. You know he'll do up some great big, recently refreshed, new scenes, better sound and improved video set just before Christmas.

Thanks! My two loves besides family are VH and Guns 'N' Roses. I bought the widescreen version this evening on my way home from work. I hope I can find time to watch the first movie this weekend. I got the extended version of LOTR: ROTK for Christmas, and I haven't had time yet this week to watch any of it. I'm anxious to see the added footage. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and opinions.
