More HP from a 5.3

I'm curious as to the most cost effective and efficient way to gain more HP and torque from my 01' GMC sierra 1500 5.3L. After talking to several engine shops I get differing opinions from headers, flowmaster exhaust, cold air intake, program chips, reprogram the computer. I don't have fortune to spend on it, well the wife won't have it, and doesn't prematurely lessen the life of the engine. I wished that I had the 8.1 but since I've got what I have it'll have to do just need some more juice!!! I do tow a boat w/ it and that is my main reason..well my buddie just got a HEMI and need to keep up as best I can

custom tuned pcm, absolutely without a doubt most bang for the buck, other than a supercharger

You'll feel the biggest gains from a re-tuned PCM. Bryan at PCMforLess worked wonders for my truck...his customer service is excellent, and you can't beat his price.

 

A new intake and exhaust are nice additions also, but the tune makes it all come together

pcm upgrade ,or since you tow. a programer with a performance and tow mode like superchips programer, and just a drop in k&n filter(at least) .headers, cat back exhaust .this is what i have on a lifted truck with 34 inch tires and it hauls ass. no joke... 130mph + (scary)

I guess my info was wrong on programers I thought they weren't that great for GM vehicles. I did add a K&N filter instead of the standard paper one. So to list the options that give the best bang for the buck at a reasonable cost is?

 

1)programer (retuned PCM)

2)rework the exhaust

Sure. Try this. You might have to type it in. I really

think Wester's is the one, you get what you pay for. Lyndon

will work with you until you get what you want. Great warranty too.
