Checking transmission fluid

Recommended Posts

The owner's manual is very specific on the procedure for checking the transmission fluid level cold. It also says the cold check is just to make sure it's safe to run it long enough to do a hot check. A hot check is the only accurate measure. Then the hot check procedure is very vague. It doesn't specify if the engine is running or the position of the gearshift. Can someone provide a more detailed hot check procedure? Thanks.

The best source of info for those of us with an 8.1, Duramax and/or Allison is www.thedieselplace.com. There is tons of good info at this site as I use it daily but my backup is thedieselplace.com as it's got alot of good info relating to our Allisons. Both sites compliment themselves very well...you just have to watch it that you don't bash the diesel fellas too much over there as it is "their" board and us gassers are just "visitors" :D
