Removing Trim On 98 Tahoe?

Recommended Posts

I would like to remove the trim that goes around the bottom part of the doors and body of my 98 Tahoe. How do you go about doing this, and if you take it off does it leave any thing like sticky stuff or anything else that you cant get off? Thanks, Josh

I've read here about folks using fishing line to remove their trim pieces, then there will be adhesive that must be removed. 3M makes a product that comes in a white metal container with red lettering which is designed to remove this adhesive.

Even with that stuff it takes a lot of time to get all the residue off.

Before you start, inspect each trim piece carefully and make sure you Tahoe has never been painted on each panel without the trim being removed. A lot of times shops will mask off the trim and paint around it rather thatn doing it the right way and taking the piece off. If this is the case you won't be able to remove the trim. Just a good idea to befoer you take off eight different pieces and then realize you won't be able to take off the last one.

Use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive and the moulding will pull right off. Continue to use the heat gun on the leftover foam tape/adhesive. You can use the 3M adhesive remover or Rapid Remover and a plastic squeegee or lil' chizler tool(available at a sign supply house).

It will take some time but is worth it. :chevy:
