1994 Chevy K3500 Electrical Problems....

I have a 1994 Chevrolet K3500 4WD 454.

Monday morning I went and started my truck...........everything worked as it should. At lunch, the truck was shut off for about half an hour. Went to return to work and the truck started as it should, but the check 'Brake (P)/(!)' light was on, there was no longer a heater fan, the once locked hubs of my automatic 4WD system were no longer locked even though the handle was in the 4HI setting, the automatic transmission was no locked in safe mode only giving me 2nd gear, and the speedometer was also dead.

What happened from the time that the truck was shut off till when it was restarted?

Since then I have:

*Checked all fuses in the dash

*Checked all fuse links that I could find

*Checked and cleaned the speed and 4WD sensors with Electrical Contact Cleaner

*Disconnected and reconnected the terminals from the newly installed batter (2 months prior)

*Checked to make sure that the Parking Brake Switch wasn't stuck or engaged

*Traced wires leading to and from Speed and 4WD Sensors

Today I did find a broken ground wire leading from the firewall infront of the heater block on the passenger side. It was a flat copper braided wire that lead from the firewall to the back of the block. I changed this over and hoped for the best.......but it didn't change anything!

I am about at wits end. I came here to seek the advice of others to try and solve this problem as soon as possible. I believe that the problem is most-likely due to a broken wire of some sort, but where. Or perhaps I'm totally looking for the wrong thing. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your assistance,

It is also my belief that the problems must all be inter-connected. The source of the problem has to have something to do with all the malfunctioning components. Perhaps some of you who have more mechanical experience than I will be able to shine some light on this problem for me.

Thanks again,

T. Shane Freeman
