Installing torque converter on 4L80e. WTF?

Working with a 95 K3500

Truck originally had a 6.5L turbo with 4L80e tranny.

I have a 96 c2500HD that I am swapping the 5.7L from.

Took out the 6.5 and have the 5.7 ready to go in. Today I go to put the torque converter that was mated to the 5.7 into the trans.

The thing will not go in for the life of me. It will spline with the shafts, but the outside will not go into the slots.

I also tried the converter that was on the 6.5, won't go either. So I take both converters and try them on the 2wd 4l80e from the 2500. They will both go on it.

Has anybody run up against a torque converter that won't install? I don't know what I could be doing wrong. I inspected the shafts and they appear to be fine.

Any info you guys have would be great.

Thanks

torque converters can be a real pain sometimes

i've seen guys fight with them for 10-20 mins

might not be lining up with the pump

get yourself 2 long bolts that fit into the torque converter

and use them as handles.

only other advise i have it that you have to make sure you hold your tongue

just right.

10-20 minutes.......I wish, I have been fighting this thing for 2 days. Had 3 different people come and look at it and nobody knows what is wrong.

Good tip on the bolts though.
