Hey everyone, I have a 05 crew cab. Was looking to getting some sounds in my truck. Any suggestions as far as the bass goes? I have the 60/40 rear seat. What kind of box to use? subs? amp? also what can I replace my factory speakers with?

and if I replace my factory stereo will I loose my steering wheel controls? Any help would be greatly appreciated

you'll need something like a truck box. like the ones that fits into a regular cab tacoma. you can fit 3 10's back there i believe. truck box wont be as loud as boxes that goes inside cars becuase you dont have enough airspace. if you are wanting little bit of thump, i say go with 2 10" kicker comp vr's. they arent gonna empty out your pocket and it sounds great. i have em for my truck but my subs go under the rear seat.

as for the speakers, i believe the front ones are 6x9's or 6 and halfs.( i forgot what size the rear ones are but since you have a crew cab, i believe its the same size as the front ones.) i have an 04 ext. cab and i have kicker component system in the front and pioneer components for the back speakers. if you are willing to spend little more money, go with a component system. it cosists of a tweeter, mids and a crossover, all seperated. sounds much cleaner and nicer than a regular 2 or 3 way speakers.

i dont think you'll lose your steering wheel controls as long as you dont get a new headunit. and i believe there is a module to bypass that if you do get a aftermarket radio.

for the amp, it depends on what you are pushing. youll need to get 2, 1 for your highs and 1 for your bass. if you do go with those kickers, you wont need more then 1000 watt amp to power them. for the highs, 500watt will do you good.

hope this helped.

min, thanks a billion..this gives me what I needed to know...I know the ext cab truck has more room underneath the rear seat vs the crew cab. I'm just looking for 2 10's...something decent. I am not out there for competition..just to have some nice clean sounds.

yes i do. you want to get it installed or you just want to buy the parts? eitherway, give me a list of what you want and ill try to give you the lowest price possible.

I have 2 10's under my rear seats and 2 8's behind it. I most likely will be ditching the 8's. I had them so I used them.

6 1/2's all around too

sweet...let me do a bit of research and what I want. I was thinking of replacing the factory stereo..only because I wanted to have a deck what plays mp3's....another question on that truck box..does that go behind the seat or under the seat?

there are 2 kinds, ones that are made to go under the seat and ones that are made to go behind the seats. either way is fine but i would go with the boxes that goes behind the seats becuase it would be better to mount the amp below the seat.

good point bud. is this one big box or like a single box for 1 sub? sorry I am asking so many questions. again, thanks a lot for ur input.

I know for sure I want a deck that plays mp3's

I am going to need a bass amp. I already have a 4 ch amp for the mid's and high's

I want to go with component speakers.-not sure which one's

Sub's, i have 2 10's right now(Audiobahn-not sure what model though)

I'll probably need a new box...I bought one for my last crew cab but the box i bought was very tight behind the seat...i'll have to re look at it

hey guys.... dont dismiss mounting the amps behind the seat. There is an extra bump out piece of metal behind the seat where the child seat top strap mounts. This is nice because you dont have to drill through any body work to mount them and on most amps the fins will be pointing up to better cool the amp. Keeps them away from any dirt and moisture too

the truck box we usually sell is a box that fits 1 sub. but i think you might be able to fabricate it so it would be a a box that fits 2 subs. but thats not gonna really change the sound.

i would stay away from audiobahns. thats just me. www.sounddomain.com they have some reviews there that might be helpful. see if they have reviews for kicker comp vr's. pioneer headunit is pretty nice, i would look into them. i have the lowest model of the kicker component system. sounds wayy nicer then normal speakers and its worth extra money. now that i thought of it, youll have to buy 2 sets of component systems.

i would mount the amp below the seats for following reasons

wires can be tucked in nicely so you wont have wires laying around.

i would think its easier access to the amps, especially becuase his truck is lifted.

the amp probably wont overheat, we never had a single issue with amps overheating becuase they are mounted under the seat.

i dont think dirt and moisture is too much of a problem.

who said i was dissing? i just perfer mounting the amp below the seat, tahts all.

and if I replace my factory stereo will I loose my steering wheel controls?

You probably will loose the steering wheel controls if you remove the factory deck. There are some interface adapters (PIE,PAC,Peripheral etc.) that offer work-arounds. One solution, if I remember right, involved 2 separate adapters, and a remote IR transmitter that you must mount somewhere that points toward a IR capable head unit. Wow. I looked into doing something like this for my son's car, but haven't committed yet.
